With the death of Robin Williams this week, there has been a lot of discussion on here, FB and real life about the affects of celebrity death on us...which ones made us sad, which ones made us cry, which ones we cared the most about and which ones didn't really bother us. There are inevitably the people who will say "Why should I care about someone who was nothing to me?" Valid point, I think but it is not generally the "celebrity" that we are mourning. It is, instead, someone who touched us in some way.
We mourn them because they gave us insight, or because they moved us in some way, or because they showed us a new way of seeing things, or because they articulated something that we were not able to articulate, or because they made us feel like we were not so weird or so alone, or because it is a joy to witness people of great talent doing what they do so well. In short, we do not mourn them because they are celebrities but because they are indeed something special to us.

Well said! And I totally agree. It also makes me stop and think wow, this person seems to have it all and yet they fought demons just like the rest of us. No one is immune to depression, addiction, illness, etc

Your post is spot on and well thought out...but why did you add the ending to Yubon?? Kind of defeats the good feeling I got reading it to be honest..

Sweet thoughts. Probably explains why some unlikely celebrities have effected me this year, while some obvious ones did not.

I just knew she would show up and actually hope that my post might help her to understand. And, her lack of understanding is part of what got me thinking about this.
