With just that one woman, Sandra, on Sunday night? If you didn't, I highly recommend it. Even my dh, who doesn't watch the show was mesmerized by the entire episode. She owned a HUGE estate in NC and hoarded it. It went into foreclosure and the two men who bought the home were saints in what they did. It truly was a moving episode.
If you stay away from the show because of the nastiness of it, this one had none of that. It was truly heartbreaking and it showed what can happen when you don't get help soon enough.

I wanted to watch it but dh didn't. With only one TV, I'll have to see if it's available through on demand later today.

Yep, I was channel surfing and came across the show. The last thing I will ever be called is a hoarder so it is so fascinating to me how people become one and can't overcome their mental illness.

Dh's mom was a hoarder but kept it in check because she was married and dh's dad wouldn't have any of that. When he died, she remarried and her 2nd husband was the same way. Had she lived long enough to be on her own, we are sure her hoarding would have gotten out of control at some point. Save

I just checked and the next airing of Sandra's episode is 2/5. I have it DVRd. I like this show. It kind of helps keep me in check because I want to save everything! Same as that 600 lb Life show. Last night I wanted to sit down and binge on a bag of Hershey Kisses, but after watching Ashley R's episode, I put the bag back in the pantry!

I watched it last night. The new owners were so incredibly kind and considerate. It was a heartbreaking though. She lost so much.
On a happier note, the house is amazing & I can't wait to see photos of the renovations!

Oh how I hope it's available on demand! I'm home today and need a good episode to get the last one I watched (cat hoarder...sooo sad!) out of my mind.

They both took it so personally and were so devastated at the outcome. My heart went out to them, especially Eric. Save

What channel is this on I will have to see if I can watch it. Shows like this also help to keep me in check with saving things or eating. DH and I have watched My 600lb life together. I am obese, working on getting healthy, and I have told him that if I ever would get to the point that I can't even get out of bed to eat, just leave me be. I am no where near that point, and if I am honest, I don't understand how people can get to that point. Just like hoarders, it is hard to understand other's mental health issues. I try to be compassionate, but I don't think I will ever be able to understand.

I did and it was truly heartbreaking. She was in such need of mental help. From not believing that she no longer owned the house, to thinking she needed to save every tiny scrap of paper. The owners of the home went above and beyond helping her get her stuff out. A 31 room house filled to the brim, even in a tunnel underneath.

No. I no longer watch it. The earlier episodes were some what more compassionate and they really told the story of why some of these people were hoarders. They also showed how experts would try to help the hoarder deal with the psychological aspect and take small steps to let things go.
A few seasons in, it really took a turn and the episodes became very exploitative. It seemed like instead of what I would consider ordinary hoarding, they started showing extreme hoarders that had dead pet animals, feces, dead insects, piles of rotting garbage, etc. These episodes always seem to include bringing in a relative that berates the hoader. That bothered me so much. I think it became all about shock value and TV ratings. The mental anguish I saw these people experiencing when they were trying to clean up their places was just too much. So I stopped watching.

I seldom watch Hoarders but the football game was a blowout so the guys handed me the remote and that is where I stopped. They ended up watching it with me. It was really sad and on the otherhand so uplifting that there are people out there who do truly care for others. Thise two men owed Sandra nothing and they really wanted to help her. I did miss the beginning and wondered why Sandra's brother's had not gotten involved earlier, maybe they did but I just didn't see it. It was a really good episode.

we did, my boys got so into it I let them stay up and watch it. so sad. it was hard to watch at points on TV, I can't imagine how heartbreaking it was in person to watch her drive away from a 31 room house with 2 pickup trucks and a small trailer worth of stuff. the level of denial she was in was just astounding. and unlike the other shows, she wasn't able/willing to accept any help for her problem or aftercare. wherever she ends up is going to be the same story. I kept hoping she would break when they were pushing her to reveal where, WHERE are you going with what you're saving? I think the guys are going to start a bed and breakfast in that house. I think the PR from how kind they were to Sandra will only help them.

I have it DVR'ed. I like to watch this show and then go and clean my house. I thought it had been cancelled so I'm pleased to see it back on. I find it very interesting that hoarding and OCD are linked.

My husband won't watch any of the hoarder shows but I was watching it when he came to bed so he had no choice! He actually watched it with me until he fell asleep. The first thing he said to me when he woke up was, "What happened at the end of the show?"
When they first showed the inside of the house all I could think about was how much of a fire trap that place was. If that house had ever caught fire it would have been disastrous. The guys who bought the house were amazing. I can't believe how patient they were.
There was a couple that lived directly across the street from us who were hoarders. We were lucky because they kept all of their hoard inside. There was never anything outside. They were the nicest people you would ever want to meet. He died first and then about a year later she died. Someone bought the house, completely gutted it and renovated it. It is empty and has been for three years. It's as if that house is cursed. I hope that's not the case for the guys that bought Sandra's house!

Wow! That was really heartbreaking. Both Michael and Eric were so kind but Eric really struggled from what they showed. How wonderful that they will be raising their twin daughters there.

I DVR'd it and am watching it now. Her mental illness overrides the hoarding so much, there's little hope for any improvement with her.
I help clean out estates sometimes for estate auctions. Occasionally we get one where the person was clearly a hoarder. I have only seen two though that were over the top. That's always extremely sad.

Funny you mention this, my DH has never watched an episode of this show and he too was mesmerized. I agree - not the gross episode like you normally expect - just tons and tons of stuff in a 9000 sq ft house! The house was amazing and I'm sure once the new owners get done with it, it will be even more amazing. I was so sad for the woman and hope that at some point she is able to get the help she needs to make sure that she can move on with her life and find happiness. Ok, so a couple of things that bothered me, both DH and I were yelling at her brothers! They were total wussies when dealing with her. At some point, much like Matt did (but maybe in a nicer way) you have to say, that's it! Also, it was kind of funny that Dr. Zazslo got lost! Shows you how big that place is! Lastly - the new owners were amazingly generous to let her stay as long as she did, to take what she wanted and most importantly to be as compassionate as they were. I didn't get emotional until the end when one of them broke down in tears. It was a heartbreaking episode, but shows you how mentally ill these folks can be.

We just watched. This one was above and beyond hoarding. This woman has some serious issues with listening to anyone. She is a control freak in every sense of the word.

Two hours is just too long for any show, for me. And I can't help but get overwhelmingly irritated at these people. It's really hard to remember that they're ill when you're cleaning up a hoarding situation for the third time.

. I like to watch this show and then go and clean my house. I'm just the opposite. I watch it then look around my house and think how wonderfully non-hoard-like it is! Even if it needs some clean up it's still better than what I just watched! Thanks for the info about this episode. I didn't see it but will see if I can record its next showing.

When both the doctor and the organizer lose it and start crying, you know that this woman had some serious issues.
