I am so sorry and sad at the same time. Please just remember how devoted you have been to your dad and try to ease your sadness with those thoughts. Can you talk to him on the phone with speaker phone, so he can hear you without straining? You are in my thoughts. Feel better soon!

I'm so sorry. I hope that you feel better quickly so you can be there with your mum and dad. It's horrible to watch a loved one die but I'm sure you want to be there for both of them. (((hugs)))

I'm so sorry. I've been there and it's the most surreal, awful, heartbreaking place to be. I hope your dad is able to be as comfortable and pain free as possible.
I hope you feel better soon.

OMG, my heart is breaking for you. I have no words because sorry just isn't enough. My mom just died of cancer, and it too spread to her bones. I know what you are going through. I will keep you and your dad, mom, family all in my prayers. I know how it is when you are sick and you can't be there to help too, it's a horrible horrible horrible feeling. Sending you hugs.

Thanks everyone, I don't generally post much about my personal life but it was late last night and it just really hit me hard and I got myself into a bit of a state about it all. I managed to get some sleep and felt a bit better, so Mum had already got there early so I waited until after lunch and then she went home after a couple of hours and I stayed to help him with his dinner. I took cold and flu tabs to dry up my nose as much as possible so I wasn't having to blow my nose and we had the doors open and the air circulating and I washed my hands about 100 times. At the start of the week I really thought we probably had a few more weeks at least, but I thought he looked a bit worse today. Before I got sick 3 days ago he was still sitting out of bed for meals and still eating reasonably well. He stayed in bed the whole time today and even with my jollying him along he barely ate anything. He asked for additional pain medicine and slept most of the time I was there. He just isn't interested in food and gets quite upset when we try to get a couple more mouthfuls into him. My compassionate side says to let him be and not try to force him, but my nurse/daughter side can't just stand by and not try and let him starve.
He's only 74 and although he's always been on the thin side he is quite tall and always been a bit of a 'presence'... in a few short months he's turned into a hunched over shriveled little old man. A neighbour & good friend of theirs came to visit as well today, she's been away on vacation for two weeks and she was visibly upset when she saw him today & how much he had deteriorated. I wish no-one ever had to go through this.
Thanks for listening and for the words of support and comfort, I really have appreciated all of them, especially last night, that was a tough one.
