My dd needs a TI-84 and they cost over $100 here and I have been trying to find one cheaper. I have contacted 5 people on Craigslist, bid on 4 on eBay and I still don't have one. UGH!!!!!! I guess it's time to cut the grocery budget and buy a new one. keep an eye out on the back to school ads I got both my kids TI 84s for $75 and $80. While still expensive it's a pretty good savings. One year walmart had a sale and 2 years later when DS needed his target had a sale but were out so I had it price matched at walmart with the ad. ( still expensive I know )

My high school required it and because my older sister settled for a cheap knock off my mom made me pony up half the cost of the 84. Wish I knew where mine was at, id offer to send it to you.

This may not be very helpful but my son's friend found one at a garage sale for 5 bucks. Do you happen to live in Maryland? My daughter sold my husbands that we had out there for her to use to add things up at our garage sale. Haha We have had to buy 3 in the last 6yrs but each child is now using them in college. Oh shoot-I'm sorry that happened! I'm not on Maryland.

Garage sale posts are usually happy ones - but Tamiq, yours makes me want to cry!

If you can't afford it, talk to the teacher or someone in the office. I am sure they have something for people who can't afford the calculator

I've taken over the TI calc that my DH bought when he was in HS 35+ years ago. Really, they last forever and at $100 it's a good investment.

That's also on our list of things to buy. Well the TI83 plus according to the course description guide we were given last winter when the kids chose their classes. I'm waiting until high school orientation on Thursday to make sure that is still the correct model they want. I also see that yearbook money is due within a couple of weeks of school starting. Cha ching.....

Yes, they are expensive.... This won't help yo but might help those who have kids getting close to high school. I have often fond them I thrift stores for a couple of dollars. I used to buy them and give them to the math teachers to give to kids who could not afford them

I must post this comic. It's one of my favorites: xkcd has an answer to everything.

Stupid question---I took math through Calculus in high school and had Algebra II and statistics in college, all with just a scientific calculator. Math hasn't changed---do kids not learn how to draw out the actual graphs themselves anymore? Isn't that what graph paper is for?

I missed this thread when you first posted it but so awesome that craftmepink could help you out! In case you ever need something like that again, I bought a refurbished graphing calculator from Amazon (looks brand new!) for my daughter for half the price.

We bought one for my son when he was a freshman. He uses it every year and it will go to college with him in the fall. I think it is worth it when they USE it a lot. And I typed too soon. Apparently he needs the T-89 this year. AP something or other. Oy.

I was going to mention that it was in the Target ad, but I see someone beat me to it.
It's awesome that someone here was able to help you out.
I can remember needing one of those when I was in school, too.

My poor nephew is in the same boat. He enters high school this year and he needs not one but TWO calculators each over $100 a graphing one and a scientific one. When I was in high school my calculator did both guess they figured they could make more money this way.
