A baby crying at the doctor's office; especially an infant.
They have no idea why they're being hurt and the sound so helpless...I hate it
A little two month old is in the next exam room getting her vaccines. My heart is breaking for her. :-(

That's why I never went into Peds. It was bad enough taking care of them in the Emergency Department when they were so sick and we had to draw blood and insert lines. It's even worse now that I have kids of my own

When DD was about 1 1/2yo, she was very sick and needed intravenous fluids. The nurses had a hard time getting a vein and DD howled her head off and I was holding her with tears streaming down my face. DH commented that he was afraid he was going to have to pick his wife up off the floor. It took several hours for the fluids to go in. DD settled down fairly quickly once they had the line in but every now and then she would look up at me and say in a little, sad voice "I'm all done now" and I would be in tears all over again.

ohh I totally know what ya mean and I don't have kids, but it does me in. When I was in the ER they had a two year old that was brought it. It was a heart hospital but it was the closest hospital for the child so they could get them stable and then transfer them. But the panic and rush around and the sounds were horrible. It was heartbreaking.

My kids are well beyond that age, but I still find myself looking around when I hear a baby crying in a store. Hearing the rusty gate cry of a newborn still makes my stomach clench for a moment, that instinctual memory I guess. Hurt baby cries make me want to jump in and help.

I usually want to cry right along with them. I hate it when little ones hurt.

When my son was 2 he had scarlet fever and required a shot from what appeared to be a ginormous needle. Poor guy cried and we had to stay in case he had a bad reaction to the penicillian. The next time the nurse walked in and before she even cleared the door, his little armwas outstretched with his tiny hamd in the HALT position and he firmly told her to STOP. No way was he buying anymore of what she was selling!!

Any baby crying gets my instant attention. Melts my heart as a mother.

A baby crying at the doctor's office; especially an infant. OMG.....YES! I work in Rural Health Care and we have babies in here all day long. I work in a different building but whenever I go up to the exam rooms, my heart just breaks for all the babies I hear crying. I just want to go room to room and comfort each and every one!

DH kinda laughed at me when DS was a baby and I cried over the shots. I said he could take DS the next time. He did, and he never laughed at me again. Nor did he ever take him for shots again. Uh-huh, tough guy.

My DD is NICU nurse at a large children's hospital....she does this all the time. I asked her if it was hard and she said "of course it's hard! But I have to do it to save their little lives.." She isn't a mother yet....might be harder for her when she is.
I don't know how they draw blood and insert IVs in those tiny babies...but my DD does it with one stick.

I agree with you all!! Hearing a baby cry makes my heart just ache. My oldest spent a month in NICU when she was born and it was the worst time of my life as a Mom. They had to do a spinal tap and I had to wait outside the door. I thought I would die hearing her screams of pain. I still have tears well when I remember it.

When I was nursing, the sound of a baby crying or even a cat meowing would make me leak.

When I hear a tiny baby in a store crying and mom just keeps shopping likes it's no big deal. It's a newborn, feed it, change it, hold it. Pretty easy. It just breaks my heart. I want to take the baby and snuggle it while mom picks out her nail polish or printer ink.

I agree totally. I have to get my blood drawn regularly, and as (bad) luck would have it, more often than not (or maybe it just seems that way) a little one is there to get blood drawn. They don't understand and I want to cry along with them. Heartbreaking.

I can't stand it, either. DD is a med asst and did an internship at a peds office. She assisted with everything from finger pricks to circumcisions. Killed her. Absolutely killed her to watch, hear and be a part of those children's pain.
The worst part, though, were the parents that thought it was funny. Yes. She had parents that thought the whole thing was a laugh-fest and would ridicule their child for crying.
She now works for an opthomologist.

When my son was 5 weeks old I took him to the ER with RSV. We were there for hours before he was admitted. There was a 3 year old blind and deaf girl with severe breathing problems brought in by her mother and grandmother. Her crying was just pitiful. She had no idea what was happening. Almost broke my heart having to listen to her for hours and have my own newborn with breathing problems too.
