were you pleased with the installation, if it was offered. We need to buy a dishwasher to replace the one that caught fire in our rental and they deliver and install free. ETA: I realize the service will vary per location, I'm trying to get an *overall* picture.

Do you know if they actually install it themselves, or do they just contract with a local installer? That is how Best Buy and even Sears do it here with appliances, so my experience would be different than someone in a different community that purchased from them because a different company would be the installers.

Elaine, I'm sure they hire a third party installer. Just wanted general comments about the service. If everyone says they didn't give two figs and did a crappy job, I'd be rethinking my choices.

I really think this would depend on location.
ETA: I don't buy my appliances from big box stores. There are two locally owned appliance stores in my town. Both have great reputations for their service during installation and after the fact when you need something fixed. That is worth the higher price to me.

The dishwasher we're replacing is a 2-hour drive away, that's why we'll probably go with the big box store.

Most big box retailers use third party installers. Our dishwasher was from Home Depot and the guys that brought it in politely mentioned when they were done that I would get a from HD about their service and customer reviews were key to them keeping the delivery/installation contract. Costco in general has great customer service, so I'd expect them to stay on top of their delivery subcontractors. The only thing I would double & triple check is that the delivery address is not the same as your membership address, and in the future, any service calls are to the correct address. And, yes, we have had a problem with a service tech being dispatched to the wrong house

We did purchase a W/D from them and had them install it. We were super happy with the whole process.

I know this is an older post but from my experience the past two months, DO NOT BUY A DISHWASHER FROM COSTCO! Here's how it works: Costco takes your money, sends the order to GE, GE sends the dishwasher to a freight forwarder, the freight forwarder hires an independent installer. So you have four links in the chain before anything goes wrong. AND BOY DID IT GO WRONG!!
The dishwasher flooded my home on the first use, soaking through the kitchen floor and through the finished basement ceiling below. The GE technician said the sump seal was dislodged and the frame was bent. So who's fault is it? No one will claim responsibility. Costco says THEY CANNOT BE INVOLVED. Really? Costco took my money and didn't give any indication that they wouldn't stand behind the purchase or installation. GE says to deal with their third party insurer, Sedgewick. Sedgewick said it was the installers fault as he "must have damaged it". GE/Sedgewick now won't return my calls. The freight forwarder, XPO, says I have to deal with the installer's insurance. I have contacted the installer's insurance but they say the installer says that he did not damage it (of course).
So I am left with $10,000 in damage for a $500 dishwasher that has been returned. Do not buy from Costco - their customer service is good if your bag of chips is stale but if you have real problems, their response to me was "Costco cannot be involved". Perhaps my story can save even one person from experiencing the nightmare I am in.

Based on Costco's overall reputation for service, I would expect them to be just fine installing a dishwasher. If you have concerns, you can always talk to the store manager about their policies regarding installations.

The big box stores will sell them to you, but they contract out the installation and delivery. So you really need to check on the reputation of each individual store vs the company as a whole. It does sound like the installer's fault--if he knew the frame was bent, and installed the dishwasher anyway, that's on him. But I bet the companies are all hoping the other takes the blame and the $10,000 hit. Your best bet is to go with a mom and pop store that does their own installation and has been in business for years and years. And of course, this guarantees nothing these days.

I would think they'd pay for your damage, and then go after Costco and/or GE for reimbursement.

We bought one a few months ago. We had problems actually getting the dishwasher delivered. We finally got Costco.com involved and everything was smooth sailing after that.
We're very happy with the dishwasher itself and the installation.

We bought 2 appliance a week apart - a stove from Costco and a dryer from Home Depot. Both deliveries were delivered and installed by Home Depot representatives.
