www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-38787241President Donald Trump is reshuffling the US National Security Council (NSC), downgrading the military chiefs of staff and giving a regular seat to his chief strategist Steve Bannon. Mr Bannon, formerly the head of the populist right-wing, Breitbart News website, will join high-level discussions about national security. The order was signed on Saturday. The director of national intelligence and the joint chiefs will attend when discussions pertain to their areas. Under previous administrations, the director and joint chiefs attended all meetings of the NSC's inner circle, the principals' committee.
This should promote some serious questioning among everyone, whether you voted for Trump or not. As one of my friends put it, "Why give a warmonger a seat at the table and dismiss experienced professionals?" Other than running an alt-right website, what are his qualifications to deal with security issues? Oh, he also worked for Goldman Sachs and made a movie about Reagan. I mean... WHAT?

Don't forget Kellyanne Conaway and Trumps SIL are sitting there too. But not the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff or Director of National Intelligence, unless they are summoned. This is totally unacceptable. We lost an American service member in Yemen. And now the American people have to guess if the military has a say in the feasibility of action, or if Bannon/Connaway/Kirschner with their non existent years of experience made a determination without military/Intel even being at the table.

He doesn't care about the consequences - he just wants to have people there who will be loyal to him and tell him what he wants to hear.
Who is going to advise him that dropping a nuke on China to show them we mean business is a bad idea? Nobody. Who is going to tell him that a trade war with our biggest trading partners is a bad idea? Nobody. Who is going to tell him that marching into a country without interpreters or a strategy or a purpose is a bad idea? Nobody. Who is going to tell him that denying entry to people who are legal residents and citizens is unconstitutional? Nobody.
Anybody who would have told him these things has quite. Anybody who will tell him these things will be fired or locked out of future meetings.
Remember when we were told that Trump won because Hillary wasn't listening to the people? Now we have a "leader" who won't listen to anyone - and definitely not the experts, because they are too elite with their experience and knowledge of our capabilities and whatnot - because he has a good brain and is real smart.

I typed out a long thing but really, it doesn't matter. The govt isn't going to change, the Republicans aren't overnight going to save us, we are all screwed. I'm beginning to think about looking at all the threads the peas had when Obama was president about stockpiling etc. Produce from Mexico is going to get way expensive, now this stuff with China and they're saying a war is possible with them...I just can't even.

From the Daily Kos
"Friday night, DHS arrived at the legal interpretation that the executive order restrictions applying to seven countries—Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Sudan and Yemen—did not apply to people who with lawful permanent residence, generally referred to as green card holders.
The White House overruled that guidance overnight, according to officials familiar with the rollout. That order came from the President's inner circle, led by Stephen Miller and Steve Bannon. Their decision held that, on a case by case basis, DHS could allow green card holders to enter the US."
Both Stephen Miller and Steve Bannon have ties to white nationalists. If this is correct then we have two white nationalists calling the shots on this country's immigration policy.

This is from Business Insider, I've looked at the site a little bit and seems to be liberal leaning, but I didn't go past the front page. Looking at the headlines for their articles, I believe they could go either way depending on your personal beliefs. This article is what I saw, and it references a Chinese English-language news site, but I don't know anything about it. To find this, I typed "war with China Trump" and several articles came up. In general when Googling, use specific words to find what you want. If you are looking for a specific phrase, where the words are all together, for example, "Will China go to war with America", and it will pull everything that uses that exact phrase in the page. HTH!

Am I the only one rembering all the angry posts about how President Obama was "not listening to his generals"? (In that context, "listening" meant heeding, not sticking his fingers in his ears and humming.)
I used to argue until I was blue in the face that we had no earthly idea what was going on behind closed doors...
...but this administration is flat-out admitting that generals might not even be WELCOME behind the closed doors.
