besides Knitpicks that is moderately priced enough for an afghan, e.g. less than $10 a skein, and that comes in masculine colors. Prefer total wool or mostly wool content.

Cascade Superwash 220 tends to be around 10/10.50 a skein. So maybe at the high end of your price range or a little over, but that's what I've got in the suggestion department.

I was going to suggest this too. I've been knitting pussyhats with it and it is delightfully soft and nice to work with. And if you buy it at WEBS, you get 20% off if you spend $60 or more

Cascade 220, there are yarn stores in Newtown (near the stop and shop plaza on S Main/Rt 25, they have a lot of yarn but I don't think they have cascade), Bethel, Ridgefield, Avon, Kent, and Westport. There is also WEBS in Northamptom, MA. I usually get yarn at Knit & Pearls in Avon but they recently stopped carrying cascade 220 superwash. ETA the yarn store in Newtown is the Sheep Shoppe, if you are in that area. The other CT stores are listed under Western CT Yarn Council. sheepshoppenewtown.com/pages/location-hours

Thanks for the suggestions y'all! Kat, you're the go to resource for CT yarns! I knew the Sheep Shoppe moved but I didn't know that's where they went. Thanks for the info.
