Sauna - yes... Showers, changing areas - sure... In a hot, bubbling pot of water that I have to watch you climb in and out of? No.

I'm sure Melissa could expand on this, but actually, I don't think the water goes in, in. Doesn't pressure keep it out? Or am I high? Like it doesmt usually go in, in your ears, and when it does it's a big pain in the ass, but it usually doesn't. I thought there was some sort of pressure from the water or something that kept it out. Course it's swirling around all the pink bits, but that is regardless of nudity, so the Asian method of "scrub every bit, then go in sans clothes" is more hygienic than the us "wash nothing and wear a bit of Lycra". Am I nuts? I just really don't think water is swooshing in my vagina, for some reason. Help me out, someone. I'll back you up, that makes sense. And you do all know there are a ton of chemicals in that water to keep it 'nice' don't you?

Well, I had to look it up. Water CAN enter your vagina- kinseyconfidential.org/water-vagina-bathing-swimming/I don't think a swimsuit really protects you from the cooties in the water, but do they not chlorinate hot tub water at the gym? It kind of squicks me out for some reason, and I personally wouldn't use the hot tub naked, but I'm another one who changes clothes in a stall.

Eww. No. It isn't the sight of a naked body that troubles me, but the thought of sitting where someone else's uncovered genitals had previously been.

Pea bay- we are going to NYC in December and King Spa and Spa Castle are on my list to visit. As close as I can get to a "real" spa in the us! OMG - go to the Spa Castle! And, seriously, do NOT leave without getting the "World Famous Body Scrub." It's INSANE. You have this woman in her underwear throwing warm water at you and scrubbing you with what feels like a Brillo pad. Your skin feels like a baby's bottom afterwards. Mine was like a James Bond villain: "TURNOVER!" You've never seen a fat, naked woman turn over on a plastic table so fast, lol.

I don't care if people wear suits or not in the locker room hot tub. I've seen both. Why do some people say it's so icky? I don't get that. Are there special naked cooties that can't make it through a bathing suit? Lol ! Special naked cooties! Those cooties aw in the tub , suit or no!

I'm to the point in my life where any public pool kinda gives me the heebie jeebies. And public hot tub? Nope.... Nude spa goers, esp. in the locker room, would not be much of an issue, though no way would I display this fat, glowingly white bod for public viewing. No no no.

I started going to the aquatic center this week for water aerobics. I was amazed at how many (generally older) ladies walk around naked - especially since it's at the same time as swim lessons and there are several little girls in there as well.
There's not a hot hub in the locker room so that's not an issue where I go - otherwise I would say NO, you should wear a bathing suit in a hot tub regardless of where it was!

What's wrong with little girls seeing older female bodies? I think it's a great idea to see that although all bodies are different we're all basically the same, that we should be comfortable in our own skins and that there's nothing to hide. It promotes a healthy body image imo.

It promotes a healthy body image imo. Let me clarify, I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with it, but there was a couple of little girls who were pointing and asking questions and their mom's were clearly embarrassed and dragged them out. While I think there's nothing more important than healthy body images for little girls, I'm not sure that a 4-5 year old needs to see a 60 year old woman walking around in all her glory. It's just my opinion.

What a shame that mother reacted like that instead of teaching them it's impolite to point and then carrying on as normal. It was probably her own embarrassment showing and now those kids think a more mature body is something that shouldn't be seen.

I've been to spas in Germany where everyone went about naked - steam room, sauna, pool, bar, foot baths, shower, etc. Where appropriate they sat on towels. There were all shapes and sizes, both men and women and I didn't mind it at all. The germ factor didn't bother me too much either. Of course everyone had to shower first before using any of the facilities.
I belong to a gym here where there are signs clearly posted that you must wear a suit in the hot tub/steam room. It is never a problem in the hot tub because that is out in the open pool area. In the steam room it is a completely different story where many women go in there without any clothing at all.
The big difference between what I experienced in Germany and what I experience in the steam room here in the U.S. is that people behaved with some sense of propriety in Germany. They didn't just flop down on a bare bench, sprawl all over the place, do nude calisthenics, let their legs spread open with someone sitting directly across from them, and that sort of unnerving thing. That's the kind of thing that bugs me.

I have no problem with nudity. I am a tiny bit shy about showing my own, but I figure if you are comfortable enough to be nude in an appropriate setting, then you are not going to be looking at or judging me either. I think that word is key, at least for me. Judging. Who wants to be judged and come up short? Not me!
I think a body, no matter what its current state, is a beautiful thing. And believe me, if you think you are chubby, a thin layer of clothing doesn't magically transform you into a svelte model. You are just chubby with clothes on. And so what? That is your current reality. And it could be that you are just fine with that. And who knows why you are currently carrying more weight than you want to be. Working so many hours there there is no time or energy left to work out? A medical problem? That's your own business and I'm not going to judge anyone. If you don't like it, you will make the changes to alter it if and when you want to. Same with being too thin.
I used to be a perfect weight for my height for the majority of my life. I didn't try, I just seemed to be able to effortlessly balance food, exercise, metabolism, or whatever the magic key was. It definitely wasn't conscious. Due to many reasons, I'm currently carrying more weight than I want to be. But that's okay. I am striving to lose the weight for my own health benefit. Those words. Diabetes. Heart disease. They scare me! And it will happen eventually, but I'm surprised at how much effort it takes to lose weight. Is it my age? My physical limitations? My medications with the damnable side effect of weight gain? Probably all the above. I'm still the same person I was before, in the same skin, that is just now a bit more puffy.
And there were a few years in there that I was much too thin to be healthy. It certainly wasn't intentional, it was just a side effect of some very emotional life happenings. I was so consumed with other thoughts that there wasn't room for thoughts of food. And when I did try to eat, it was difficult to get it down. That's how emotions manifest in me. For some people, they eat in excess when experiencing extreme emotions. But in either case, we are still the same people we were. We are just striving to handle what is going on outside and the response our insides give us.
So having gone through all the various stages of body size, I learned that people are always going to comment on it. When I was too thin, I got the most comments because that is some how socially permissible to comment on one's thinness rather than one's fatness. I got comments when I was of normal size too. People would claim to be envious or make a smart remark about my being lucky that I didn't have their metabolism. I receive comments now that I've gained more than is healthy for me. I think probably more because of my previous states of normal to too thin. I find it all interesting. People are so vested in what is under my skin. That layer between bones and skin. How it is shaped, how much or how little of it I currently have. And then there are the people with scars. I find it difficult to understand being ashamed of a scar. You are living in a time that medicine was able to fix what was wrong with you. That's a good thing! My son has a prominent scar from his cancer surgeries. I was quite surprised when his step mother mentioned him being embarrassed of it. I asked him if he was, and he absolutely was not. It was her that was uncomfortable. At 9 years old, son said he liked his scar because it made people talk to him and ask him what it was from. He said it made him popular. And then later on in his early teens, when girls came into play, he said it helped him to weed out the superficial ones. Good boy! Now he's an adult and I doubt he has thought about that scar in years. I so wish everyone could feel that way.
So for me, nudity, the skin itself, is pretty much the same for all of us. And what is going on under that skin is most likely situational. I feel empathy when someone is unhappy with that, or in the process of altering that, not judgmental. So speaking as one, I think the reason there are so many elderly women that are comfortable being naked is they have probably been through so many life experiences that they realize it just doesn't matter. It really is what's on the inside that counts.

My gym does not have a hot tub but there is a sauna and some women go in their naked. IMO, people don't need to be naked in the locker room area unless they are actively drying off from the shower or changing/removing clothes. I can not believe the number of people that walk around, bend over, have full on conversations stark naked. I think it's gross. The only person I want to be naked with for an extended period of time is the person I'm being intimate with. Personally, I shower and dry off in the shower stall and wrap up in my towel to walk out and I get dressed as quickly as I can, applying lotion after I get my underwear and bra on. I get that some people are just really comfortable in their skin. I get that. And honestly, this is my issue and I don't think they don't have to change for me. But it doesn't keep me from feeling very uncomfortable. I mean, there are times I see someone with their leg hiked up onto the bench as they bend over to dry off. And this isn't just fit, young people. This is women of all ages, from young women to seniors with all different body types. Gross! Gross! Gross!

I am not a gym person -- I'll work out by walking or work out with free weights at home -- but I just wanted to say that I love a thread that includes references to a "lady garden" and a "hoo hah" in one thread. This place rocks. The original TwoPeas be damned; The Refugees *rock*.
