My dog loves these chewies called rollhides. I get them at the grocery store.

Our dog doesn't know how to chew. She snaps, crunches for a minute then swallows. No chew bones for her ever.

I've given my shih tzu pork ears, he likes them. Just make sure there are no added additives and made in USA. If your pup is a chewer, I recommend bully sticks. Again look for same things in those as well. They're made from bull testicles. 😲
I'd be careful of anything raw hide. I've read so many articles about all the nasty additives they use to make raw hide chews. I was horrified. Suggest going to pet store or Amazon and look at ingredients. No offense to above poster, I find most chain type grocery stores carry pretty low grade chews. A lot are made in China. Definitely want to stay away from those.
Just looked up ingredients to roll hides. Too many additives for me personally. Beefhide, Rye Flour, Maltodextrins, Sugar, Animal Digest, Wheat Flour, Lecithin, Salt, Phosphoric Acid, Sorbic Acid (a Preservative), Citrus Fiber, Propionic Acid (a Preservative), Potassium Sorbate (a Preservative). J-5427.

I don't give my dog (10 month old Shih Tzu) things like that because he would swallow them whole. Tried bully sticks and he would get sick. Plus I am a vegeterian and tend to avoid animal things other then his food. Boo gets lots of kong and other chew toys to make up for it.

I've been giving Lily no-hide chicken chews but wanted a variety. I've stayed away from rawhide chews. I came across these cow ears but I'm a bit skeptical. She's a chewer and not a swallower.

Honestly, after I almost lost my Lucy to a grocery store dog treat, I will not give her anything but crunchy locally baked treats (usually made by myself). It was a $4,000 mistake that almost killed my dog and she's never been quite the same since.

We give pig ears, but not very often as they are very high fat. We give a bully stick almost every day. We never give rawhide as they are the worst and will expand in a dogs stomach.
We have given hooves which they like ok, but not as well as their sticks. We have tried antlers, but those are too hard and I don't want them breaking a tooth. We have also given them Himalayan chews, which they like but they are expensive so they are a rare treat.
We have started making our own treats since we use treats for training.
ETA: I forgot we also get them raw bones at the butcher.

Both my service dog and my pet golden got water buffalo horns three days ago. The nine month old puppy hasn't left alone for days. She has been chewing and chewing and not put a dent in it and she's a total power chewer.
We avoid all store bought treats and treats that can't be sourced in the USA that basically cuts out most treats except antlers, real femur boys from the butcher I boil to sterilize, and kongs stuffed with real peanut butter and frozen (also watch the peanut butter because many of them have sugar substitute in them that is bad for dogs.

We give our chi SmartBones, which are a rawhide alternative. She loves them! The other thing she loved were beef esophagi (DH bought them - that thought is way too gross for this vegetarian! LOL) - they were $$$ though, so he hasn't bought more. MizIndependent, that sounds horrible! What kind of treat were they? Should I be worried about things like Pupperoni?

My rat terrier loved Dingos. They are rawhide bones. She never had a problem with them.

The problem is that the cow ears, bully sticks, rawhide treats, hooves, it all gets soft and kind of gummy when chewed and dogs that don't try to swallow can easily do so accidentally. The treat gets stuck in their throat and they die unless you can get your dog and a few thousand dollars to the vet asap. Make sure you keep an eye on Lily when she has these chew things and throw them out when they get ratty looking. Best thing is to get some bone shaped cookie cutters and make your own crunchy treats. You don't have to worry about where the ingredients came from that way and you make them in a size that is appropriate for your dog. Like someone else said, just stay away from sugar free peanut butter. Or check your area for a dog bakery (there is one here that sells baked goods for pets and has wine for the owners during the weekly dog playgroup.)

Never-Louis is a swallower, so he only gets small treats.

Pig ears and pork rolls are very high in fat so use in moderation. If your dog has a history of pancreatitis you should avoid anything high in fat. As with all dog treats and chews, do not buy products made in China! You have to read the packaging closely to find where the product is sourced from and where it is packaged.

If it's any kind of compressed/formed treat, yes. Lucy had a blockage in her small intestine because she couldn't digest it. Seriously almost killed her.

We avoid most of that stuff because it's so disgusting after it's been chewed a while and they give our dogs nasty gas. We stick to Nylabones and toss them when the big dog chews them into a shiv.

We used to give pig ears to our old dog. He loved them. BUT they gave him noxious gas and he made an unearthly crunching sound while eating them. We did, however, love him enough to give them to him anyway.
My current dog, I give marrow bones. They seem to clean his teeth as he gnaws on them.

My little dog's favorite treat is dehydrated duck hearts. He adores them. I did buy a pig's ear once. I hold on to treats like that to make sure his is going to eat them properly. I let him have about 1/4 if the pig's ear before I threw it away. It was really greasy, smelly, and he got the runs from eating the little bit he did. I put him on an old towel to eat it and I'm glad I did because it was really messy. I would not want him eating something like that on my couch or bedspread! It wasn't worth it to me to let him finish it.
We now stick to bully sticks, preferably the really long ones so that he can't swallow it. He also loves his dental chews, and any other treat I make myself. He has a piece of horn, but it is really hard and he gets bored after a short time. He is eating a raw diet that is mixed about half and half of raw frozen and raw dehydrated. It depends on where I am and how convenient it is to get the frozen thawed out. If I am in a hurry to get him fed, I give the the dehydrated reconstituted in some hot water from my tea kettle.

My pups love pig ears but we don't give them to them because they end up fighting over them. So they get bully sticks. They smell like holy hell but keep them entertained.

Oh my gosh this just came across on my FB news feed. I had no idea. I've given my dogs these as well. Thought you might want to know. Nylon dog treatsI think the biggest issue is that pieces can be chewed off and swallowed, but that can be avoided by paying attention to the condition of the toy on a regular basis. We've only given our dogs the hard ones because some of our dogs have been very aggressive chewers. My last little guy in his day could completely destroy the big black rubber Kongs in about a day, so the only option for him was something as close to indestructible as possible which was the hard plastic Nylabones. Once the knuckle end was chewed down, they got tossed. Our little dog now isn't much of a chewer at all. She has a smaller Nylabone in her kennel for when she's confined and that's the only time she has access to it. I don't think she's even touched it since I put it in there.

My super chewer loves these: Petstage Dogwood StickThey're at Target and I've found them at Marshall's for a great price. We probably have 5 or 6 around the house!! I'm interested to try some of the other suggestions too! Thank you! She can't have any stuffed toys - she eats the fabric. Weirdo!

My dog loves deer antlers as well. I found that at Chewy.com they are much less expensive then in the pet food store and they seem to be a better quality.

I make dog crack with spent beer grain, flour, peanut butter and bacon. We have to limit my couch potato on how many she gets.
My mom's mastiff goes nuts for them and won't let me up the stairs demanding to see the fresh bag.
