I have two emails through my internet provider...one keeps getting emails about various accounts being compromised. Most I can tell is junk, it'll be "my credit card" yet the return address is a Verizon address or something shady.
Today it's an email saying they're disabling my email until I contact them due to many attempts to make a change to it. Account wasn't disabled and I as a precaution changed my password anyway.
Some back story that is likely relevant to the situation. My credit card was compromised a few months ago. There were tickets ordered on it. I think I got an email confirming the purchase but thought it odd and a mistake until credit card company contacted me regarding the purchases. The card is linked to this particular email. So likely whoever ordered them also had or was given at some point my email address?? I'm guessing when ordering? Have no idea.
Since around that time I get bogus, we have a problem with your credit card and now today the internet provider emails probably every week or two. What I don't get is why? Is it the same scammer? Half the time I don't even have the credit cards they indicate so I know it's just crap. It just bugs me to not understand the why of it....is there a connection between what happened with cc earlier or it's this just spam crap?

I get these constantly - for accounts that I don't have - they're just hoping you click and enter your information.

Yes, I'm certain they mail out millions of these with the hope that a few will result in a payday

It's funny to me that this email account is the one that gets them all the time whereas the other with the same internet provider doesn't. It's annoying, but glad it doesn't seem to be more than that.

Here's what happened to us. One of the e-mail accounts my daughter used to use through Windstream was hacked. They used that e-mail to request that our land line phone calls be forwarded to another number. They were doing this because they were in the process of requesting money to be wired from our Home Equity Line of Credit. All of this to drain that account. We caught the problem in the middle of it and no money was transferred. Bank is still trying to figure out how the thieves got hold of our account info.
So don't respond to those e-mails, but check on things!

I get these, too. I have since changed the email account on the card. When I get one (an email) using the old address I know it is a scam.
I also have one email address associated with financial information. That email address is not given to any distribution list or used as a login on any other website. I also opt out of all marketing communications from any financial institution.

Is used for any kind of reward card I need for shopping and for when I place online orders that I need to track. I have twinsmomlinkedin@ just for my linked in account. These addresses have the same password that I can easily remember. twinsmomhousehold@.... Is the one I use for financial stuff and our Norton security account. I change the password frequently and keep it pretty well locked down. I have a junk yahoo account that I keep for stuff like registering to read an article online.
