My daughter's teacher read the Mercy Watson series to the class, and soon after my daughter was able to read them herself which made her feel wonderful! Super cute illustrations and I think there are 5 books in the series. So many other good ones have been listed, but I liked that my DD could read them easily herself

My kiddo really enjoyed these books around that age: My Father's Dragon series The World of Pooh Adventures of Frog & Toad James Herriot's Treasury for Children Peter and the Starcatchers Adventures of Frog & Toad! What a great idea, I hadn't thought of those books in forever!

OK, I love many of the books listed above, and my dgd sure does too, but I have another suggestion. Novelizations of popular movies and tv shows. Loads of these at libraries. The Lego Movie, and Marvel Avengers come to mind. We've had Superman, Batman, Star Wars and more. My dgd is something of a superhero freak. So they may never win literary awards, but they sure do have an appeal. Awesome suggestion! My son is gaga for anything Superheroes!
