Still no sign of him....but some of these stories make me feel better that he may come out eventually.

My cats go up inside the box springs. They also like to go inside closets and hide in the smallest space they can find.
Try opening up some canned cat food. That always gets my cats attention.

When we moved, our cat hid for 3 weeks behind the fridge. yup. Behind it. Fridge is tucked into an alcove with only about an inch of clearance on each side. I have no idea of how she got back there, but once we found her, we figured she was ok since she ate her food each night while we were asleep and then just went back behind the fridge.
Once we left the door to the attic open and the curious cat got in, crawled way down to the edge of the space and got stuck where it was about 6 inches high. DH was just about to open up the soffit from the outside to get him out when we managed to coax him out by opening a can of catfood.
I have one cat who loves to sleep in closets. When we can't find her, she's usually way in the back of a closet.
Good luck. Put out the cat food and see if it is still there in the morning.

The good news is that he's been spotted in the drop ceiling. He's apparently part ninja, as he's been walking around on the drop ceiling for 2 days and we couldn't hear him. DH has been slowly popping out the ceiling tiles. We finally heard him meow tonight and were afraid he was stuck. Nope...he's just enjoying the game. DH has spotted him 3 times...but hasn't been close enough to grab him. We put food where he can see it and are getting ready to call it a night. I'm just thankful that he's not hurt or lost.

I'm glad to hear he's okay. Mine climbed up the chimney. There's a little ledge about a foot up and she would hang out there.

Oh, good. At least you know that he is in the house and didn't slip outside. I hope that you are able to get him down soon. If he wets up there, it is not going to be a good thing. Keep us updated.

I have one that crawls into the kitchen drawer and goes underneath it - you have to pull the drawer out completely to retrieve him. He also goes behind the washer/drier and into an (unused) kitchen wall cabinet. I once found him IN my crockpot in a lower cabinet - I now store the crockpot covered.
In my old house we had a corner cabinet in the kitchen (floor to not quite ceiling height - it wasn't completely covered on the top and one of our cats used to end up in there regularly- again we had to take the lower drawers out completely to retrieve him. DH finally nailed plywood up there to keep him out.

My herd usually hides in the boxed springs, as well. Even the 40-pounder. ..., especially with another cat that's less than friendly. Give them time and they will either become friends or at least find their corners LOL. Oh my goodness... This is not the thread a dog person should read if their child is requesting a cat. 40 pounds? Oh my again. LOL remind me we've loved any and all beating hearts in our house.

I cat sat a big scary cat for a friend a long time ago. this cat was the biggest pansy around and was afraid of everything. He got behind the toilet in our hall bathroom (IT didn't have any windows and it was really dark unless you turned on the light, the cabinet was really close to the toilet so when the light was on there was a dark corner). We looked everywhere for that damn cat. we thought at first he got out the front door. but we finally found him under the tank of the toilet. we left him there. He finally came out 4 days later. The funny thing is that this cat was not even 1 years old at the time and he was the son of my cat. His mom and dad came to get him the day after he came out from the toilet.
My aunts cat likes to climb up in the bottom of her recliners. she has the style that looks like wingback chairs and they have long legs. When yo sit in the chair and recline it out pops the cat. the first time this happened to me it scared the crap out of me.
My cat liked to hide in my shoes. I stored them on the floor of my walk in closet and she would move them all aorund to make a bed for herself in them.... She hated my ex and he always tried to pull her out of the closet and he would always get the crap clawed out of him....

Hope he's come out now! Mine likes to hide inside a suitcase, on top of the wardrobe. He's got better about it lately though and just spends most of his time asleep on the bed.

Our older cat sometimes disappears for days on end and then suddenly reappears. Just strolls into the room like he was around the whole time. He has no way of getting in and out, so we know he is in the house somewhere. Younger cat loves the linen closet. She burrows into the blankets and mattress pads that I store on the floor in there. She likes to stay in the upstairs foyer (not sure why) so if we don't see her there when we go to bed, we always check the closet to make sure she isn't trapped.

I was going to guess ceiling, my dh had a friend with a cat staying at his boat. Every time dh went to check on the boat the cat was no where to be found and he was concerned she had escaped but it turns out she was hiding in the ceiling liner, one corner was not stapled up due to a leak repair and she squeezed her way up there anytime a visitor came by.
