We got a new cat Wednesday night. We saw him at bedtime on Thursday night...but he's now disappeared somewhere in the house. Any ideas where you would hide if you were a cat?
I've checked: *under the beds *under the furniture *inside the furniture *in all closets, cabinets and drawers *in the basement's drop ceiling
He's about a year old and he's a pretty big cat. Our other cat looks pretty pleased that he's not hanging around anymore. I even tried carrying her room to room to see if she would hiss when we got close.

Mine hides under the fridge. Yup under it. She is a weirdo.

Also check inside box springs. They are known for ripping the fabric and going up into them.

My 14 pound furball likes to hide up in the box springs of DS#1 bed. A small section of the liner on the bottom has come loose...it's just enough of an opening for her to squeeze into when a strange person enters our house.

my 25 lb behemoth of a cat hides in the box springs also. He's my hider and I don't think we've sussed out all of his spots yet but that one is his favourite.

When mine really wanted to hide, they would go under the oil tank. Talk about a yucky dirty cat that came out eventually. Ugh. Hope you find him soon.

Oh and one other weird place. We have a jacuzzi tub. She went in the access panel and hid under the tub too. Lol.

My herd usually hides in the boxed springs, as well. Even the 40-pounder. We just purchased a day bed with a trundle, the smaller of the herd can fit between the bottom of the day bed and the top of the trundle mattress.
He'll come out when he's ready. It's a scary thing to be in a new place, especially with another cat that's less than friendly. Give them time and they will either become friends or at least find their corners LOL.

Does the cat have a favourite treat? You could try putting some in the centre of each room and closing the door to that room and checking back a little later to see which ones had been eaten.

My cat hides under the clothes in the laundry hamper, just her nose peeking out. She startles me!

If I were your cat, lost in your (my) house, I would not consider myself "lost" I would consider I've found a fabulous hideaway from bossy cat. I had a cat who liked to get into the corner cabinet that goes way back to inaccessible places.

This didn't happen at our house but our one cat at the house it lived in before ours somehow got in a wall and was trapped there. Do you have any holes in your walls or small access areas in the wall that it could have gotten into.

If the cat is in the box springs, would I be able to see a droop in the fabric from underneath? Or are there crossbeams or something solid that he could sit on?

There are sometimes crossbeams they will sit in but mine like to lay on the fabric. You should be able to see where there is a tear in the fabric. Good luck finding the new kitty!

If they are in the box springs you may not be able to see a droop in the bottom fabric. It is generally pulled really tight. what you need to look for is a small tear.. it may be a hole or it may be where a couple of staples have come out along an edge to make a hole.
My cat also liked to get in the same area on a bunkie board (the support on the upper bed of a bunk bed) She didn't cause a droop in the fabric. She liked to hide there then claw the child trying to sleep on the bottom bunk
Keep in mind, even if he is a big boy, he only needs a hole the size of his head to get in. So you may be looking for a much smaller access hole than you think you are. The widest part of his skull is the most limiting element to the size of space he can get into.

Did you check in each cabinet in the kitchen and all bathrooms? One of my cats likes to paw open a cabinet door and disappear inside. A bit startling when we reach into a cabinet for a pan and encounter a cat!

My sisters cat disappeared for a week after the 4th of July, they thought she was gone for sure, she never gets out. She usually hides in my sis room. They found her underneath a recliner. Somehow she had climbed up underneath it. They had looked everywhere. I hope you find him.

Mine like to sit in the bathroom cabinets/cupboards or way at the back of a deep kitchen cupboard, also on top of kitchen cabinets (as far back as possible, and curled up so you can't see them) in bathroom sinks, in bags. When we moved into our apartment recently, it was the back corner of one of the bathroom cabinets. Could barely notice one of them. He made sure he was well hidden behind general bathroom stuff

I wish I could help-but one of my cats hides so well I have no clue where he hides. He has varying levels of hiding, pseudo hiding like behind the curtain, mostly hiding like in closets and behind furniture and super-duper stealth hiding where he essentially disappears into the ether and no one can find him. When he goes all ninja kitty on us, we just put out the food and hope his royal catness forgives us for whatever our transgressions are and come out eventually.

Wait, did I just read about a 40lb cat? I want to hear more about your 40lb cat too! Mine is 25lb and people tell me he's the biggest cat they've ever seen. I tell them he's part dog.

Do yhave a garage? My sister's cat got behind some drywall where it was unfinished and got stuck. They found her remains years later and were all even sadder that she had died that way and they had no idea-they thought she had escaped

I thought the answer to this question was "stuck in the duct work." Oh, no, that was... Trixie? Is that her name?

One of mine likes to hide in the basement on the shelf with the sleeping bags.
I hope you find the elusive cat soon!

Many years ago when I lived in a house with reclining furniture a scared cat would often get all the way up inside the sofa or chairs where the reclining mechanisms were. I've also had a cat get stuck behind the washing machine and behind my computer desk. I also have one cat that loves to hang out inside kitchen cupboards and another that will pull out my dresser drawers ever so slightly and take naps inside with the clothes.

This is exactly what I was going to say! My cat used to do this and it drove me nuts! He also used to climb onto rafters in the ceiling in the basement unless he got 2 puncture wounds in his butt from exposed nails.

Remember they can flatten themselves. Mine has hidden on a few spots when my son babysat him: under the kitchen cabinets behind a furnace in a closet under the foot part of a rocker recliner.
He had to keep calling him before Cody came out.
