I had one about 5 yrs ago. My vision was very zig-zag for 45 minutes, then went normal and a migraine followed. During the 45 minutes I had every bad thought and was on the way to ER when it went away. I called my eye dr and she said as long as I got a migraine after the 45 minutes it is okay. If I don't get the migraine - get to a hospital.
I haven't had one since. It was extremely scary.

I've had three, the last one being over 10 years ago. For me it's like I'm missing part of my vision and it really freaked me out. I don't recall the zigzag thing, but I was so freaked out I might have had it. It's like the central vision is so blurred I can't make out anything at all. I did not have a headache afterwards. I can't remember anything that triggered it. Once I was driving in bright sunlight, once I was just at home hanging on the couch reading and once I was at work. I'm happy with never having another one and extremely grateful I didn't get the headache.

I get the flashing lights, then tunnel vision. If I don't take 2 Excedrine Migraines, i will have the mother of all headaches. I had one last weekend. I was nauseous all day.

Yup - and I'm the idiot who went into the opticians when I had my first, begging for an appointment 'RIGHT NOW' because I was GOING BLIND!! I'm not sure what causes mine, I don't have them too often and there never seems to be anything obvious as a trigger. I don't get headaches with them either, but it's such an uncomfortable experience while it happens. You are no idiot. You had no way of knowing what was happening. Better safe than sorry.

I think people are confusing ocular migraines with the visual aura that can precede a migraine headache - NOT the same thing. I don't get a headache with these, either during or after the kaleidoscope vision effects. These are a different kind of migraine. That. I've had 4 now and never feel anything.

My first few were just the visual aura, then they started coming with a headache. The problem is that I don't know which it will be when I get the aura. I could get by without any headache, or I could need to shut myself in a dark room for days.

I've had lots of these. No pain and they usually go away within 10 minutes. More annoying than anything.

The only time I have had Ocular Migraines is when I was pregnant. So scary. I would get a tired feeling in my eyes, and within seconds my vision would start blurring around the outer edges. It was surreal. Then I would get spots, and a few flashes. I am so sorry. They usually went away within about 20 minutes, but I had to be very careful when driving. Nothing really hurt, it was just a strange feeling.

I've had what I think was an ocular migraine twice; a bunch of them over a weekend in 1986, and just one in about 2002. In both cases I lost the central part of my vision. However the reading I just did says that an ocular migraine is in one eye only. I don't know for sure that mine were. This visual aberration is called a scotoma; scary but not dangerous in my case. Keknj, our experiences sound very similar.
I agree with one of the previous posters who said that some of these descriptions sound like auras rather than ocular migraines. I frequently get visual auras, and they are not always followed by pain. The visual auras are usually a fuzzy area in my vision, just in one eye. It feels and looks like there is something in my eye, but rubbing my eye doesn't change the sensation or the vision (specifically, it feels like an eyelash is caught in my eye). My eye may water, too. Sometimes there are halos around lights, or flashes.
There are so many variants of migraines, and they don't always involve pain. Or the pain can vary from mild to excruciating.
And I too get migraine hangovers; I know just what you mean!

When I experience them, part of my vision is missing...most often the peripheral vision. It is in one eye, but it is very hard to distinguish which eye is experiencing the problem. It looks like a long shimmering curtain is over the outer part of the vision. I did not always get a headache following one, but recently it seems that I get a headache every single time. I also thought I was going blind the first time it happened, so I don't think anyone that thinks that is an idiot...
