I am a bit freaked out by the ads from Amazon that are popping up on my IPad. Last night my mom called to tell me she has been looking for a new wall clock and had found one she liked, a Bulova model. She wanted me to do some research and see if I could find the clock anywhere for a cheaper price. I said sure but never looked online for it. It was late and I went to bed soon after completing the call.
So this morning I was using my IPad to skim newspapers and I noticed that the Amazon ads that appear on the page are all for Bulova wall clocks. I never did any kind of search for the clock. How in the world did Amazon "know" about my phone conversation? I'm feeling a little Big Brother weirded out right now. Anyone have any explanations for this?

My husband's kindle does that too. I always turn my microphones/location off on all my devices because it freaks me out.

All our devices see that we say and provide messages (ads) for appropriate items.

My SIL decided to randomly throw a certain product she never uses into conversations, just to see if her phone was listening. Now I want to check up on her and see what the experiment yielded!

You have always been a part of the heist. You're only mad now because you don't like your cut.

If you click on the little blue arrow on the top right of most ads you can change your ad preferences so they aren't based on your browsing history.
I know because I'm neurotic like that. The first time it happened to me I freaked out.
