The teacher I'm subbing for tomorrow had six (six!!) students sent home yesterday for actively vomiting (yuck, yuck, yuck), and four more came down with a flu/stomach virus last night. She has a total of 10 kids in her class today! The teacher pulled me aside today and said the custodial staff is going to disinfect her classroom tonight, thankfully, but I'm nervous about teaching with so many students falling ill. The things teachers (and sub. teachers) put up with!
Any nasty bugs infecting your kids and/or students? Central Florida has been hit hard this year.

Oh gross.... I had a day a few years ago when I turned up to find only 8 kids in class. The rest (and the teacher!) Were out with a stomach bug. I used a lot of hand sanitizer that day! Didn't catch anything but I tried to avoid touching anything, washed my hands a lot, washed all my clothes as soon as I got home. Just felt gross. I am a germaphobe though... hope you have a good day and stay well

Thanks the reminder, I had a co-worker stop by my desk and cough, then use my mouse. I forgot to immediately lysol the mouse when she left, just did.

The school system where I used to teach was closed one day last week because so many kids were out sick. Flu or flu-like symptoms. Glad I'm retired and out of the area. SW Florida is holding up pretty well so far, even with all the Snow Birds here from so many places. Hope everyone stays healthy.

Just a reminder that most hand sanitizer a don't kill norovirus. Soap and water is the best option for preventing tummy bugs.

I'm in south metro Atlanta and it's getting bad around here. We have about 20 confirmed cases of flu at my school (out of 450 students) but some schools in my district are up to 100 kids out. I already wipe down all surfaces with Lysol wipes after school each day, but I'm being extra careful this week. Because I'm in the media center, I touch ALL the books that have been touched by those 450 sets of hands. Yes, I often wipe down the books with wipes too.

Oh my god, is Norovirus going around your area? That spreads lightning Fast and causes intense vomiting and diarrhea. It is the absolute worst.
Be careful tomorrow! I would be very tempted to wear a mask and rubber gloves all day long!

It is tearing a path through our house. And doubled back to get me and the baby again after 24 hours of no symptoms. This stomach bug is the work of the devil I tell you!

My first few years of teaching I got sick. After that, I could have six or more kids go down in an afternoon and not catch anything. When you are in it every day, you can really build up immunities. I did wash my hands several times a day, but everything you touch in a classroom has been touched, sneezed on, coughed on, or whatevered on at least a dozen times. Lysol is great until the kids come in and just start breathing. Good luck and I hope you stay healthy.

I remember once last year there were 14 of us subs in my elementary school! The principal made a special announcement about everyone please be helpful to the subs. It was the norovirus. I was supposed to be subbing for one of the reading specialists that day but they pulled me and gave me the choice of 1st grade or 5th grade. The school's permanent sub was going to take the class I didn't want. They know I love the little ones so they expected me to take the 1st grade. No way! lol. More germs down there in the lower grades. I took 5th and bleached the heck out of everything I could reach before the kids showed up. I did desk tops, door handles, light switches, everything. Then I told the kids how germs are spread and how contagious norovirus is and how they shouldn't touch their faces, etc. I scared them pretty good because before they had a snack they all lined up to wash their hands. hahaha I survived that epidemic, thankfully. Now we have the flu going around. We had a special visit from the county health department because we had SO many kids sent home one day. Thankfully I've missed that also. I have been so strict with myself about not touching my face AT ALL unless I wash my hands first. That means an itchy eye just has to itch, or itchy nose. Whatever. NO touching my face. The nurses at the hospital gave me that tip. -- Plus I disinfect everything every chance I get, like when the kids are at lunch or at specials.

My toddler has been sick since 1am on Sunday. Every time I think I've reached the 24 hours without incident, vomit or diarrhea. I've had reports that lots of kids and parents at school were affected. My fingers are crossed that no one at home catches it since ds1 is 4 and still working on washing hands and not drinking from brother's cup etc. I guess I'm lucky that Friday and Saturday I was sick but it ended quickly, my poor baby has been sick so long!

I'm not sure if it's Norovirus, the flu, or another type of stomach bug, to be honest. So far my kids and I have not gotten sick... I just hope it stays that way!

I've kept my kids home in that situation, I've even heard of schools closing. Can you turn down the job?

I'm in Tennessee and most of the schools have been closed for several days, and some are closed thru Monday due to sickness. It makes me very aware of how often I'm washing my hands and using sanitizer before I touch my steering wheel. I have the Clorox wipes in my desk. Call me germaphobe, I don't care. Ain't nobody got time for that.

We have all kinds of things going around among the students and staff and children of the staff. Sounds like everywhere else is experiencing the same illnesses.

The preschool I work at has everything from flu to RSV and everything in between. Another teacher had to leave today. We sent a notice home with the children reminding parents about good hygiene and our polices concerning sick children. There will always be that one parent that will send their child to school sick even if we sent them home.

My school has had kids out, but not much more than in a normal winter. DS's school has been hit hard. Out of 30 kids in his grade, there were six cases of diagnosed influenza A in the last week or so. Crazy.
