One of my closest friends has a birthday coming up very soon, and I wanted to get her a gift that is in the $30-50 range. She IS pregnant with her first child, but I don't want to get her a gift related to her pregnancy, as I think she'll get a lot of gifts like that!
However, I do want to be cognizant of what you can/can't do when you're expecting...and I have no clue, as I've never been pregnant myself nor been close with many pregnant women.
One of my friends suggested a mani-pedi, but I *think* some women are wary of the fumes/chemicals during pregnancy. I have no idea if she's like that or not, but I don't want to get her something she might not use.
She's turning 29. Lives in the Pacific northwest. Works in marketing. She's not particularly picky, but I don't want to get her something as impersonal as jewelry or a scarf. Any suggestions?
Must be shippable, because I live many states away...

and i was immediately thinking "mani/pedi" too!! you can get things "cleaned up" without needing a polish, if she is anxious about that. OR she could use it after baby born to get away for an hour to herself.
how about a massage gift card?? there are massage therapists that specialize is prenatal massage.

I got lots of mani/pedis pregnant. And always got one near the end when I couldn't reach my feet! I wouldn't go sit in one of those nasty acrylic nail places where everyone is wearing masks to work. But the salon where I go, absolutely. Preganancy massage is lovely too, if she likes massages. But for me, I wouldn't go to just anyone so that might be hard to pick not being local (could you ask her husband wher she likes to go maybe?).
Other ideas that would be useful for someone expecting a baby that aren't "baby gifts"- nice personalized stationary or note cards since she will have lots of thank you's to write, a fancy water bottle of some sort (like a Swell), or a pretty set of pj's for after the baby is born.

What about a gc to a movie theater (assuming she has a DH or someone else to go with)? That is an outing that will be hard to make for a while post-baby, so she should enjoy her "freedom" while she can!

I would go for a gc to do something that won't be easy to do when the baby comes.
Restaurant, concert, movie..

I always enjoy going to the movies so that gets my vote. A gift card that would cover the movie and concessions is always nice in my book. As someone up thread mentioned, she won't be going out a whole lot (for that length of time anyway) once the baby is here.

I loved pedis while pregnant. Most places now are well ventilated and its not too much of an issue. I had a sensitive stomach (lots of sickness) during all three pregnancies and I didn't have any issues getting my toes done!
Also if you can find a place that specializes in pre-natal massages. They are amazing!

Loving these ideas, y'all!
Stationery, some sort of outing GC... those are great options.

I have no idea if she's like that or not, but I don't want to get her something she might not use. This could be a good idea, but...... does she usually get mani/pedis? I hate them, I can't stand people touching my feet or filing my nails. A friend gave me a voucher for a mani/pedi when I was pregnant with my now-12yo son and I didn’t use it. When I was decluttering over the New Year break this year, guess what I found? Yep, the voucher from over 12 years ago! If she likes mani/pedis I think it would be a great idea, or as others have suggested, a massage voucher. Personally I would have LOVED to have been given a restaurant voucher to use with my SO before the baby was born. So that would be my recommendation.

How about a really nice cozy robe and slippers to take to the hospital? She will be able to use them a lot after baby comes too when she's getting up in the middle of the night to feed the little one or to change diapers.
How about a digital photo frame for all the pictures she will end up taking of the little one? I would have loved that.
