I found out I was and I had to report it tonight. I am very upset. I can't give out any information on it at this point but I can't believe I was so easily duped. It made me very sad.
Sigh live and learn.

No. I'm pretty careful about everything (I work in the IT world of things). But it's so easy anymore! Glad you figured it out and reported it!

No, I have not. But because I hear about it all the time, I err on the side of caution & would rather not respond to things I could be interested in rather than take the chance that it could be a scam.
Sorry you are going thru this.

Nothing major. I used to moderate what is still a very popular stamping/crafting board so we were always on the lookout for scams and people begging for things (much like the types of things that happened on the old 2 peas). But not me personally.
Sorry that happened to you.

An attempted scam, but nothing that went any further.
We had someone contact us about an item we were selling on Craigslist. In the initial contact he said he was mailing a check out right away. A few hours later he contacted us again saying he was sending out multiple checks that afternoon and his assistant mixed up the amounts each person was supposed to get. So our check was for way more than our item. He asked that we go ahead and cash it then send the remaining amount back to him when we send out the item.
Yeahhhhh, right.
The check came for $9000+ for a $200 item. I guess the scam is that we cash the check (which the bank will do), send him back a check for $8800+, then when the check is declared fraudulent, we're on the hook for the $8800. I guess it works. It's a well known scheme. We googled it.

I've never seen an internet scam that looked believable enough to fall for. The ones I have seen scream scam - like the one mentioned above where you send the guy cash. Hasn't everyone heard that by now and is aware? Or the one about the IRS calling you and demanding money. Come on.

I've had all kinds attempted on me, so far they have been pretty easy to see through. The check for way more the amount and the third party person who will pick up and pay with an escrow account. We've gotten the fake IRS phone calls at work and just last week we started getting the one where someone calls and tells you you have a problem with your computer. I chewed that guy out and my coworker screamed at the "IRS" guy. These kinds of predatory scams infuriate me.

Not with my up-front knowledge. I once had someone create a fake ebay transaction, which somehow went through my real paypal account. PayPal was on top of it right away. I contacted the seller, to tell him not to ship the item, and he said he didn't even have that particular item for sale. I still don't know how that happened, but I didn't use paypal for at least 3 years.
