Joint press conference
1. He sounds like he's trying to sound diplomatic - or at least "professional" - but IMO fails bigly. 2. When he turns & says he'd like them to "Hold back on settlements", my jaw hit the floor. He sounded like he was reprimanding a preschooler.

I find it very alarming that Trump's son -in -law has been friends with him for a long time as he said. This clearly is influential to Trump's policies with Israel.

**Insert Lucy's doomed quote here** Obama has been telling Israel to stop the settlements for 8 years, did you jaw hit the floor every time he said it.

No, because Obama didn't say it like he was reprimanding a preschooler. I should have been more clear that it wasn't WHAT Trump said, it was HOW he said it. Sorry about that.

In my opinion, that's about all he can say. His son-in-law doesn't have diplomatic experience yet we're expected to believe he can negotiate a peace treaty between Israel and Palestine (something 7 presidents have been unable to do, mind you). Sure. Trump, for all his bluster, is just doing exactly what other presidents have done before him. Keep Israel as an ally (but tsk-tsk about those settlements), honor the One-China policy (instead of threatening to use it as a "bargaining chip," btw, wonder what it felt like for him to have his tail between his legs on that one), threaten Iran (but only with sanctions; never mind that he said he would rip up Obama's shameful Iran Treaty and that they've been PUT ON NOTICE, maybe we'll forget that big talk), make goody-goody with Canada (despite blustering about NAFTA), etc. Remember how he'll move the American Embassy to Jerusalem - yeah, he probably doesn't have a Plan B when the 3rd Intifada happens as a result of that. Truth is, bluster is meaningless in foreign policy.

I heard it more as a request to stop building.

Makes you wonder who is running the show? Having an allegiance to another country means he won't be impartial in dealing with Israel and support them blindly. So no peace treaty will be negotiated, instead Israel will be allowed to continue to have an apartheid state and claim land that is not theirs regardless of whatever public lip service Trump says.

Are there any other threads here about him with Netanyahu? I was shocked this thread was so brief.....BUT, I realize there are SO MANY things being talked about---who can keep track, right !??!

My jaw didn't hit the floor until Trump said he was good with the one state solution. Or 2, whichever. Very loosey goosey approach to a very volatile region! I did not hear any mention of moving the US embassy though. And weird they had a press conference before they spent time together discussing anything. Except a photo op with the wives, and looks like Melania got the memo after not being there for Mrs Abe. I wonder how much the taxpayers spent for her to commute in from NY?

used2scrap.....I also thought of how much it cost to get Melania there for that ...I wonder if she stayed in DC at all, or just flew in briefly, then back to NYC that night ?
