He thought he was being helpful. I guess I can't really complain about that. So, how do I know if it's ruined?
The ironic thing is, I think the dry cycle on my dishwasher is broken. The last few days nothing has been all the way dry in the morning, and nothing feels warm. I start it at night when I go to bed, and by the morning everything is usually still warm. So I think it's not working properly, which may actually have saved my Thermos, lol. Kinda hoping the dishwasher is broken so I can finally get a new one. I almost got a new one a few months ago, but we decided to wait.
Anyway, how do I know if the Thermos is ruined?
Thanks!

My husband did it with a Stanley brand and some generic brand I got from Wal-Mart. They appear to be okay. I guess as long as it isn't done repeatedly?

I had no clue you weren't supposed to run those through the dishwasher. I run my kids' at least once a week.

I always put ds' thermos in the dishwasher. I'm not sure why you think you can't.

My kids take a thermos to school 4-5 days a week and I always wash them in the dishwasher. Why do you think yours is ruined?

Mine isn't the Foogo. Mine says it is not dishwasher safe. It even had a sticker on it when I bought it that said it's not dishwasher safe. Here's the link to the instructions for the one I have: www.thermos.com/careuseStainlessSteelVacuumware.aspxI googled to see if there's a way to tell if it's ruined, and all I found was "do not put them in the dishwasher" etc. Something about the dishwasher ruins the vacuum seal so they don't keep food hot or cold anymore. I guess I can contact Thermos and ask them. He put it on the bottom, but again, I think my dry cycle is broken anyway, so it may be fine. I just want to find out.

I would say just use it as normal and if it still works you've got your answer.

can you submerge it in water and watch for bubbles? if the seal is broken, there should be an exchange of water for air in the insulated part.

I would say just use it as normal and if it still works you've got your answer. Or put some very hot/boiling water in it, seal it up, and check on it again in a few hours to see if it's still warm.

I think once or twice through shouldn't be a big deal. But i think using it regularly ruins the vacuum seal, and they won't retain heat/cold anymore.
