Actually his speaking reminds me a lot of my mom in the late stages of dementia. You could ask her a question, she knew she didn't know the answer, so she just talked for 10 minutes in circles and we had no idea what she was saying. Then a few minutes later she would say something perfectly normal. Understanding in a 92 year old, not so good in 45.

I was going to say it reminds me of my mom in the early/midstages of dementia when she still had enough cognitive awareness to know a question was something she should be able to answer. If a conversation was short no one would be aware of the dementia, but if it continued into a discussion of some sort, it was obvious pretty quickly that something was off and her answers didn't make sense or were repetitive.
