I'm thinking of going to a scrapbook private reserve in Florida. I would have to fly. How do I fly with my supplies? I went to one years ago in my home town so I just drove to it. I don't want to drive days to get there. Anyone here has flown to some kind of event with all your supplies?

Not since 9/11! We used to take our bags as "personal" and stuff them into the overhead bins! LOL at the "olden days"!! But -- depends on the type of event - but if I'm going to fly to one now, I'd only anticipate having to take "personal" supplies in checked luggage - I'd expect classes and workshops and nice stuffed bags of product to complete the project! And - I'd plan on saving room in my checked bags for the return trip!

I wondering bringing all the stuff as carry on but pack my trimmer punches, scissors glues ect in the checked luggage. I'm not sure about. It'll be interesting to see how glues fair in checked baggage. Of course it would be in baggies.

I have wondered about this. Would have to totally change how I pack for a crop!
I am thinking I would pack up a large rolly tote with essential tools, supplies I plan to really USE (maybe kit some papers/cs/stickers/diecuts), my photos, glue, pens/inks, etc, as well as page protectors for my finished projects coming home, leaving space in it for goodie bag supplies. I would check that bag. Then I would pack my clothes & personal items for carry on.
Sounds like a wonderful adventure: go for it!!!

I was thinking the same thing but worry about the condition of the bag when I get it off the plane.

I fly to crops a lot and it just takes careful planning. I put together page kits or an album kit if I'm working on that kind of project. I know that I average 10-12 pages per day so I plan accordingly. I put all the things I am going to work on into 2 of those 12x12 iris cases.
One will have the page kits, pictures, sketches, flat sticker sheets. The other will have lumpier things like washi, stamp pads, bags of buttons, thickers, anything not flat that could mess up my papers or pictures.
Then I use one of those plastic shoe boxes for tools.
I use a large rolling duffle type suitcase which fits all these things perfectly. I tuck my trimmer on the side. Lay my clothes on top of that and squeeze in toiletries.
I bring a luggage scale so I don't have any surprises at the airport.
It works out great and i can usually just sit down and get to work since there's not much to unpack and I planned a lot of what I am going to work on.
I'm leaving for one on Thursday....if you want I can take pics of what & how I packed so you can get an idea.

I really wanted to do this a long time ago but wasn't sure how to get everything there safe and sound. How does your glue do. I almost always have trouble with shampoo or other liquids leaking out in the plastic ziplock bag. I can't imagine the glue leaking out. It would be a horrible mess trying to clean up the clean that up.

I just resumed scrapping a few months ago and have been trying to stay minimalist LOL. You won't need much they supply tons of stuff all you need is basic stuff i.e. Paper trimmer scissors adhesive. They sell chalk ink. They do have some of the adhesive and some stuff like that if you run out. They give away a lot of door prizes. If I recall from the last one I went to they gave away a nice printer.

jstblondie That sounds like so much fun. I'd love to see a photo of how you do it. I am sure I could get by without any liquid adhesive for a crop. Glue dots and tape runners would be fine.

It's a full album plus some other projects for $300.00. They will post pics of what your making when it gets closer to the first event. They do sell out. I signed up w/o seeing what the album was and I loved it.

The album wasn't a theme as I recall but most of it coordinates throughout the album. There pages are very little cutting. There kits are perforated so on only have to pop the pieces out of the page. It makes much easier and faster.

Should pull mine out and take pictures of it. Funny thing though I haven't put pictures in them. I really need to do that. Now that I think. I think it was focused on travel and memories. I'll have to pull it out.

I would seriously consider packing it up and mailing UPS or FedEx Ground. No need to worry about checking it and picking it up at baggage claim. Mail it to where you're staying.

I'll post pictures later on the week before I leave. jstblondie I don't really use liquid glue but I do bring spray mists and just put them into ziploc bags, sometime I'll double them up just in case. It's in the hard iris case so there's a little extra protection from pressure there too. (Touch wood) I haven't had any problems with them.

I used to travel extensively with my stuff for work both pre and post 9/11, and if I had to do it today I would definitely consider shipping my tools and supplies ahead with UPS or FedEx Ground. The last few times I've had tools and stuff in my checked bag everything that I had carefully packed to avoid damage was completely rifled through by the TSA and was basically just thrown back in my bag all willy-nilly. My trimmer was jammed in there so carelessly the last time it was a wonder it didn't arrive broken. They run the bags through the scanner and if they see something weird they open it up to check. Then since they don't have time to put anything back carefully the way it was, they just shove it all back in, zip it back up and send it along on its way. For that reason, I really, really prefer only going to crops or retreats that I can drive to so I'm in complete control of my stuff the entire way.

I wonder how much does it cost to ship stuff out. I'd think it could be pricy.

I do a lot of shipping for work. I've never had a package lost via UPS or FedEx. It would not cost any more than paying for a checked bag.

Are you able to specify what dates they are shipped so they will be there when it's needed? How about returning. I'd hate for it left on my doorstep. I'd Rather go pick it up myself at one of there buildings. I guess I'll have to check with them to see how the proses work. It sounds like a good idea. Something to think about.

I love Quick Quotes Private Reserves! They are local to me (Washington State) so I've been to several and of course, always drive. Knowing how the Private Reserves work, I really would only bring the necessary things like my favorite trimmer and scissors (and of course put them in your checked bag). I wouldn't bother bringing glue or inks because they always have lots of things for sale at the event (at least here in Washington).
I usually don't even bring my own stuff to do at the crop because the evening crop is a great time to get the album pages prepped and ready for the next day. It makes it soooo much more enjoyable to have things ready to go because those classes move FAST! The crops are so much fun and entertaining with music, games, laughs, contests, stuff to peruse/buy, demonstrations (Canon printers, etc.).
If you haven't already gotten it, a supply list will be sent out to you that covers absolutely everything that you will need for the classes. Enjoy! QQ is so much fun!

I wonder how much does it cost to ship stuff out. I'd think it could be pricy. I would worry about my stuff getting delayed or lost in transit. Having it in your checked bag is no guarantee it won't be lost or delayed by the airline either. DH and I have had our checked luggage delayed by three days once. Thankfully it was on our return flight so we were already home when our bags finally arrived, but if it would have happened on our flight out it would have been awful. I won't ever put my trimmer in my checked bag again after it was jammed into my bag so carelessly by the TSA last time. It was sheer luck that the swing out arm didn't break off. I think I would take the blade out and put that in my checked bag by itself, and put the rest of it into my carryon bag. jstblondie I'm pretty sure that when you're shipping your stuff back you can specify that it be held at the local UPS or FedEx office for pickup if you like. Or have it shipped to a family member or neighbor that you know will be home, or maybe to yourself at your workplace where someone else can sign for it for you.
