This thread makes me smile so. You can tell when you live in a border state that produces the most maple syrup and that has a large French Canadian population. We have Maple cotton candy at a lot of our fairs and other events. And you now can buy it at a lot of stores in little containers, but I think fresh spun is the best. We have restaurants that offer poutine You can find Humpty Dumpty (a Maine Co.) Ketchup Potato and Dill Pickle chips in a lot of stores. A lot of people make Tourtière (meat pies), especially around the holidays You know and can tell when the Canadians holidays are You get the Canadian TV stations. And in a lot of areas you get more Canadian radio stations than US ones (both French speaking and English) We also call them touques (hats)

Canadian oreos are WAY better than the us ones. I always take some to friends of ours in MI when we visit
and I can't believe nobody has mentioned how much better Canadian beer is!!!!
(although I agree, I prefer m&ms to smarties also. way better taste, and smarties melt candy colouring all over your hands)
and yes its true that the Canadian $100 bills smell like maple. When the 50s came out we were hoping they would smell like bacon! (but they don't)
my family always gets thrown off when we're travelling & they try to order their coffee as a "double double". nobody ever knows what they are talking about

Alexander Keiths (brewery) Oh wait. Maple bacon. I do love maple bacon. I hear that voice from that dog in the video saying, "the maple kind?!" in my head.

I actually had a jar of that in my pantry. I think it came in a gift basket. It was nasty.

I've never heard of Maple Butter. I guess they hide it from northern Canadians?? Oh well, I have Smarties, ketchup chips and Nanamio bars to keep me happy, those are my favourite Canadian food things. It's one of those things that is produced in Quebec/Ontario and, as much as we'd like to send you some, we've already eaten it all.

Coffee Crisp chocolate bars. The. Best. You can buy them on Amazon. Occasionally you can find them here in the US, but they are easy to find in Canada. OMG!!! They are so AWESOME!!!!

My mom always had whipped honey butter on hand when I was growing up. That was good, and Maple sounds even better! I will search our stores! Or maybe plan a trip - the Peas have said the most off-beat things to inspire us before.

Thank! Lucky for my diet - this product is currently not available! You dodged a bullet there. Everytime I go to our fair I come home with at least 2 or 3 bags of it, it is an addiction. And have I confessed that I typically only go to the fair so that I can visit the Maple House and have a a Maple creamy, a sugar cookie with maple frosting, and maybe a few pieces of Maple candy in addition to getting my Maple Cotton Candy.

Hmmmm, I had to google Canadian Smarties because I couldn't imagine that they were good... Smarties in the States are small little hard, crunchy, chalky, icky things. Canadian Smarties look like our M&Ms. I always treat myself to those boxes of maple-leaf shaped candies when I'm up there.... next time I'm looking for Maple Butter. Yum! And ModChick, you have plastic money? Do you mean the bills with that clear plastic thing in them? I think I have some around here somewhere.... <off to sniff maple-scented Canadian money>...

We call those chalky things Rockets. Smarties are like M&Ms yes. But M&Ms are gross and Smarties are da bomb I think it just comes from growing up I only had Smarties so I don't care for M&M's. The newest version of our money is very plastic and not papery at all. You can wash and dry it. It has the clear plastic strip and a clear plastic maple leaf. Some say the $100 bills smell like maple, the Mint denies it.

No one has mentioned Neo Citran? The best. I prefer M7M's over Smarties, too. Raised on Nanaimo Bars but they are far too sweet for me. Most chocolate is definitely better. Dad's cookies. Seriously great.

Tell me more about this. Is it like maybe a jelly or apple butter? I assume it's for toast? I think I need maple cotton candy in my life. I think a real Canadian needs to explain it. It's like creamy melted maple fudge. I put it on cinnamon toast and I about fainted with joy. I like maple syrup, but I don't otherwise love maple things. It's because I never had maple butter, I imagine. Oh wait. Maple bacon. I do love maple bacon. Maybe I just need to start slathering maple on things! Straight up on a spoon is my favourite. But pancakes, waffles, with it rock. Maple bbq sauce for salmon is to die for.

We found maple cotton candy on a road trip in Canada this summer (at a sugar shack in the middle of nowhere with no people to be found, just a sign on the door that said take what you want and leave the money in the jar--how Canadian!) It was the most delicious thing ever, and now I crave it. I haven't had Canadian maple butter, but I make my own when ever I make a turkey to based the turkey in. It's delicious! Maple butter basted turkey sounds AMAZING! Not that maple cotton candy sounds all that bad ...but I don't usually like cotton candy! Man, I knew I was a Canadian at heart (and stomach apparently!)
