A friend & I were discussing a book we read about 30 years ago & I want to find it for another friend. IIRC, Britain dismantles the monarchy and the Queen & family end up in public housing. The book is about the family dealing with their new life and very funny. Does this ring any bells? My initial search failed me and I have to run, so leaving it with you.

Thank you! Funny, I didn't remember the author being Sue Townsend because we were also talking about Adrian Mole.

If you go to amazon, there are 4 that have that title. Is Townsend the author of the book that is funny? If so, it has a sequel.

The book sounds hilarious. I just bought one of the many copies offered on eBay.

I'm surprised that Amazon doesn't have a Kindle version. I LOVE stuff about the British royal family, I'll have to look and see if the library has this and actually read an old moldy tome! The horror!!

Yes, Sue Townsend is the author of the book I was looking for and it is very funny. At the time we originally read it, we were also big Coronation Street fans so could relate to the council house setting. It doesn't look like it is currently in print in the US (which I guess is why there isn't a Kindle version my3freaks and cindytred). My library system has The Queen and I, but not the sequel which I didn't know about. Her Adrian Mole stories are also hysterical.
