new goals for yourself or your family, sort of like New Year's Day? I know there was one Pea that has posted on the old board about that. I sort of look as a way to get back into routine and set some new goals. I'm starting an Excel class Tuesday and really want to conquer it. I can get so far with the basics and then I get confused with some of the more advanced abilities of the program.
I also want to try and cook ahead more. The kids have a weird schedule on Monday/Thursday and are hungry when they get home around 9:30 pm so it would be nice to have something decent ready to go for them. Maybe some grilled chicken and potatoes they could just grab or other simple things that aren't junky.
What goals do you set if you use the beginning of school as a starting point?

Make it out alive each day. Seriously. Both kids are on the autism spectrum with various medical needs. One is in 2nd grade sai moderate class and the other is in jr high now, which presents its own challenges for an aspie.

Yeah, I kind of look at it similar to New Year's resolutions. Unfortunately, most of my plans last about as long as those resolutions. Menu planning, getting outfits and backpacks prepared the night before, writing out a family calendar and keeping control of all the paper that comes home from school with my two kids. Those are my areas to work on. Next Wednesday - it's on!

Definitely. I love the start of a new time. Whether it's the first day of a month, a school year, a season, I see them all as being full of even more opportunity than a regular day for some silly reason.

This is my "last first" it is the last time I will have a first day of the semester as an undergraduate. My goal is to not develop a bad case of college level senior-itis and have to repeat the semester!

Always! This year will be different as our youngest will be leaving for university in 2 weeks. I imagine that there will be lots of changes in the coming days.

Definitely! New school year always brings a new schedule for us and the perfect time for a fresh start.
It takes a couple of weeks to get into a good rhythm of what nights need fast & easy dinners for everyone to grab & go and what nights we can actually sit down together to eat, but the goal is to have home cooked meals as much as possible.
I also have my annual start back at the gym 3-5 times a week once the kids are out for the day.

My baby leaves for college soon. This will be the first school year in 23 years (since my oldes was in preschool) that my schedule is not driven by the school calendar/schedule. Nobody to see off in the morning, no extra curricular activities to attend... It's going to be weird.

I'm heading out the door in just a few, back to school for me. Will try to get back into a healthy eating/exercise routine and lose the 10# that snuck up on me since January... I know what I gotta do, just have to do it! Happy first day of school to all who have already gone or will be starting soon.

I've spent the last half of the summer completely redoing our downstairs arrangement & decor. Purge, purge, purge! The plan is to start the school year with new habits in a clean, organized house. The kids will have a whole new study & storage area and we have new rules & routines to help keep things running smoothly. I'm a teacher. I don't mind taking on extra tasks during the summer. But during the school year it's exhausting. DH is a wonderful help when asked, but hasn't been overly involved with the kids' routines & care of the house. I've been secretly transitioning him by leaving lists of chores for the kids and letting DH deal with it while I'm out if the house. My biggest goal this school year is that Mom doesn't bear the brunt of the workload.

My goal was to make sure the kids were fed before leaving for practices. We have football M/T/Th and cheer T/Th. Most nights they aren't home until after 8:30 and still need to shower and get ready for bed. We were eating just way too late. So I have been cooking and we have been eating by 5:00 each weeknight. So far it's worked.

Most definitely! I love schedules and while I live for the summer, I'm glad to get a schedule going again. I try to start off the school year with some breakfast stuff in the freezer for the kids, which I've managed to accomplish. I made 12 bagel breakfast sandwiches and 12 breakfast wraps and put in the freezer over the weekend. I plan on making french toast sticks today to throw in the freezer.
I always menu plan so dinners are usually all set. My girls are starting soccer this year so 2 nights a week there's practice at 5:30 so I need to adjust my menu to have easier dinners on those nights. So in what little down time I have this week, I'm going to be searching options for easy, healthy meals.

My kids are all grown up, one is married. I still consider the beginning of September as the "New Year". New Years doesn't have the same feeling for me. I also am one of those people that loves it when they put out the school supplies. Maybe it is because September means we are closer to my favorite season Fall!!!
