Trump is putting people in his cabinet that will ultimately keep him and his dishonest people out of jail.
What a clusterfuck.
But hey--Benghazi....emails...

It's not "connecting the dots" but a superhighway between trump, those around him and the Russians.
The scariest part to this entire scenario is the FBI is investigating parts of this. Their job is to turn their findings and recommendations over to the Attorney General. The question becomes will Sessions do anything if the FBI recommends charges be brought or just sweep it under the carpet.

Horrifying. I just finished Red Notice, which is Bill Browder's amazing book at Russian corruption and oligarchs, and talks about how the current sanctions against Russia came to be. So this is fresh on my mind.

Isn't it strange - the Russian ambassador to the UN died suddenly yesterday at the age of 64.
These Russians are really unhealthy. They keep having sudden heart attacks at really young ages.

there should be no doubt at this point that Trump and Russia are connected. i'm just waiting for him to designate a Russian White House that he can stay at in the summer.

Anything reported in Vienna today? I just went over my lunch watching this. She's really put together a road map, so I'm curious. Off to google. Edit: It' being reported through several sources that his extradition has been approved. Oligarch to be extradited

I haven't read this yet (I'm on waitlist at the library - it got bumped up on my list with all the current Russia news), but did hear an interview with the author last year and it sounded terrifying. Did you like the book?

I've been following Louise Mensch & John Schindler on twitter - they're way too in the weeds for me to understand all of what they say, but what they do say is terrifying. I hope there are enough good people left in government to do something if what is being alleged is true. Complicity up and down the gov't.

I just read Cold Tactics--an old novel originally published in the 1980s. Plot: Russians find a man they can manipulate, manipulate to get him elected as POTUS. Shocking how close it played to the Nov.2016 election.

I don't watch Maddow and have no idea how often she comes on. I do hope someone comes into this thread and updates on what she says after the news that he is going to be extradited.

Interesting article: "The Big Picture: Kleptocracy and Capital Flight A few of Donald Trump’s connections to oligarchs and assorted thugs have already received sporadic press attention—for example, former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort’s reported relationship with exiled Ukrainian oligarch Dmytro Firtash. But no one has pulled the connections together, used them to identify still more relationships, and developed an image of the overall patterns. Nor has anyone related these cases to one of the most central facts about modern Russia: its emergence since the 1990s as a world-class kleptocracy, second only to China as a source of illicit capital and criminal loot, with more than $1.3 trillion of net offshore “flight wealth” as of 2016.1 A Guided Tour of Trump’s Russian/FSU Connections The following roundup of Trump’s Russo-Soviet business connections is based on published sources, interviews with former law enforcement staff and other experts in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Iceland, searches of online corporate registries,5 and a detailed analysis of offshore company data from the Panama Papers.6 Given the sheer scope of Trump’s activities, there are undoubtedly other worthy cases, but our interest is in overall patterns." www.the-american-interest.com/2016/12/19/the-curious-world-of-donald-trumps-private-russian-connections/scrupulously sourced

Just watched Rachel Maddow and she said that Austria agreed to send him to the US but he was arrested on charges unrelated (but similar, only this time from Spain) as he was leaving the courtroom.

I watched Rachel also tonight. I thought the timing of the Spain extradition arrest was beautiful. Austria may see the handwriting on the wall with Trump and feel he would allow this creep to slip away. By sending him to Spain Trump is powerless.
The Russian mess is going to a huge boiling point and a lot of the administration will be in the hot seat.
