I came home earlier today, took off my boots, got a glass of water and went to sit down on the sofa. But for some reason, I felt the need to get back up and head over to my wardrobe where I store my small scrap stash and just started flipping through some papers. As if looking for something. I didn't really stop and think what was happening, I just let the scrap instincts take over.
An hour later, I have two 6x8 layouts done, a few journaling cards tucked into a 6x8 page protector, some thoughts jotted down and little drops of Color Shine drying. I made a layout and journaled about missing my parents' old cat - who passed away last November - during the week of Valentine's Day. I used to take a selfie with him around Valentine's Day to celebrate that he was my first true love. The anecdote would have been a small little card in my PL. But in this fresh album, I got to make it a full spread. And before I knew it, I was making a spread about a current event.
Then it hit me. I'd started something parallel to Project Life. Instead of keeping a year of documenting chronologically my life, this album looks like it might be shaping up to become a year of documenting chronologically what's going through my mind (and what triggered the initial thought). Like a proper scrappy diary where there is no need to compromise to fit the mixed media art journal trend (which is fun but just something else) or edit things out to fit the overall PL format and keep a decent balance between life facts and thoughts.
And I'm lovin' the first results yielded with what I call my "Project Mind". I used some of my very favourite papers in my current stash to make these two little layouts too. It felt right and in no way a waste to cut up the very best I have to illustrate my thoughts and feelings.
To those who've done something similar, did you keep up with your PL-type diary for a full year? Did you end up moving away from it? If so, why?
