I love taking photos but am stuck in auto mode. I want to get out of auto and into manual mode.
Has anyone taken any classes (there are a couple on Big Pictures Classes)?
Any suggestions?

I have the old 2peas 12 weeks photo class saved on my computer. I know it was highly recommended on the board so I wanted to make sure I saved it to learn more when I have time.
Im interested in learning more too so will keep an eye on this.

I am currently taking BPC 201 Mastering manual mode and also Maggie Holmes-just bought both her classes last week too. So far, I'm not impressed with BPC class, we just have week one of the lesson and after I read it, i'm thinking thats it!!?? Karen RUssell Snapshot of a good life it a great class and so much info. Its definitely worth it. I signed up for BPC & Maggie Holmes (self paced) because I like being challenged and with photography there is always something to learn and I enjoy reading and trying it out. I will say though, there is no better lesson and learning than to try it yourself, take your camera out of auto and go for it, what do you have to lose? With digital you don't even have the cost of printing wasted if it doesn't turn out!

Just had another thought-have you looked at Creative Live classes? They have a calendar that shows all they offer and you can watch them live for free. Often they will show the rebroadcast in the evenings or weekends. John Greeno is one of my favorite instructors with them.

Jessica Spraque has several different photography class videos makes it nice because you've got videos you can always go back and watch - or watch 20 times before it sinks it. You can also print the PDF's as well

Also, check your local community college. I took a class there...four Saturdays. It was nice to have the hands on with the instructor experience.

In reference to the above suggestions, are these classes something that you view online or can you save them or somehow watch them more than once?

I took a class at my local camera store. It was much more helpful, to me, then the on-line things I had tried.

I agree that taking a class at your local community college is super helpful for learning this. They should have digital as well as film classes available and are reasonably priced. In all honesty, taking black and white film changed how I took photos, even with my digital camera. I was surprised how much.

I agree with those who've mentioned taking a 'real' class as opposed to an online class. I took many online classes, I learnt stuff, for sure; but never really quite got it! I never actually lasted the distance with any of them either. Finally, I took a series of beginner photography & photoshop classes at a local art & photography college. I finally got it & it was as if a whole new world had been opened up for me. I went back & reviewed all the online classes I paid for ( Karen Russell, maggie Holmes Candace Stringham, Katrina Kennedy) yes I'm serious, I've signed up for all of these over the years. Anyway, it was both beneficial & fun to go through those old classes again, with my new found understanding & develop my own style.

I took Maggie Holmes Beginner class almost 5 years ago and it was e-mailed to me as .pdf and then there was a board to post images for review. I found it extremely helpful and haven't bothered with another class since and just kinda wing it. I would've considered an in person class, but I was not interested in finding one where I lived at the time.
