I am trying to set up my scrapping room.
I have a large paper stash, which I do not want to purge. I am not near any LSS. I shop from my stash.
I have bought every paper shelf cube that the "closest" 4 Hobby Lobby stores carry, and I still need 5 more just to make my scrapping table. I also still need shelving for one wall. I want shelves that will hold up well and hold 12x12 paper in Iris Bins or Art Bins. What shelving system do you use? IKEA shelves? If so, what kind? I don't want to spend a lot of money only to have the shelves sag like my current shelves are starting to do. I have been using stacking shoe shelving, which worked well at first. I like that they hold two columns of papers side by side in the bins, but they are not made to hold the weight of paper, and they are definitely sagging in the middle.
My scrap room is a loft area, and guests pass through it to get to the guest room, so I do want it to look relatively tidy and nice. Shelves with doors would be fabulous.
Any recommendations?
Thanks!

I purchased an armoire to hold my paper. I can shut the doors when I am not actively scrapbooking.
I chose this because I scrapbook at one end of our living room.
My patterned paper is in 12x12 clear plastic envelopes, stored upright in the armoire. My cardstock is in hanging folders in a wheeled cart my aunt gave me at least ten years ago.

I bought kitchen cabinets from a liquidation place. They also did the countertop and I had my dad install them. It's just a corner in a room & I had all the cabinets as drawers for more storage. I'm tall so it's a perfect height for me. Plus it's tons of storage!

After years of piecing together various storage attempts, I had my room redone by kitchen cabinet people. They put in shelves, counters with drawers under them, and a couple of pantry units with doors.
I have heard people sing the praises of Kallix (?) shelves from ikea for scrap rooms. I picked up one unit for a book case and it seems like pretty high quality. And there are supports at various places for the shelves. My dd put it together, so I don't know if the shelves &/or the supports are adjustable. You would need to measure your bins to make sure you get the specific cube size. They have a few set up in the ikea warehouse. I might even be tempted to take a large iris container in with me and see how it would fit.

IF my stuff was at all organized, it would be in those white storage cube drawers. I have 2 file drawers, then a 3 drawer cube on top of that and finally a cube where you slide items in vertically - like maybe current pages or something.
I also have a tall bookcase where albums are stored as well as iris cases of supplies.
On my 6 food table I have some shoe shelves with a board over the top of them for shelving on my table. It all worked very well when I was organized but I pulled everything out to reorganize and never put anything back so it is just one big heap of paper and boxes and stuff.

I am in the process of revamping my room a bit too. I don't store paper on shelves, it's just too heavy. I had this old computer desk with doors that I converted to hold a lot of my stuff. But the piece was big and sort of in the center of the room and I decided to get rid of it. I have a bedroom closet in the room that i've slowly cleaned out so I could make more room for paper storage. I use 2 of these bins from Container store for 12x12 cardstock. Then I have 2 of these Iris carriers where I store my newer paper lines and I always keep one less stocked & take that to crops. Then a few of the 12x12 shorter Iris cases have some various papers. So I store everything just on the floor in closet or around my scrap table, which is a kitchen cart, so some paper is on the lower shelf. It's very sturdy and my SO just reinforced it with better casters than came with it. The Kallax shelves from Ikea are great for 12x12 storage, although, I think leaving it on the floor is best, and maybe even mounting it to wall if you were to get the large one. Does your shelving have the metal braces/track up the wall? sorry not sure on the technical term. I know that type always worked well for me in the past. Can get at Lowes/Home Depot, it seems to be more supported versus just suspended shelving.

I use to store my paper the iris containers the flat 12x12 ones. I bought from Mike's the cart that holds 6 iris containers. I have 2 of those for my 12x12 paper storage. How many iris containers do you have of paper?

My scrapbook space is in an open loft area too. I have a 5x5 Expedit, a Raskog cart, my desk, a small bookcase/TV stand and 2 comfy chairs. The Expedit holds the majority of my supplies obviously. My paper is stored vertically. The CTMH organizers (for stamps and PL card storage) fit really well in the squares, but the Iris containers are too big. Of course IKEA sells lots of containers/baskets that fit the Expedit (Kallax).

My scrapbook room storage is nothing to write home about, but my mom has used several of the Pax wardrobes from Ikea with great success. She has them open at the front, but it looks like there are some options with doors. You can get a variety of inserts depending on whether you want shelves, drawers or wire baskets.
I have the Kallax. I have lots of other paper storage racks (similar to what are used in scrapbook stores), but lots of paper is stored in the Kallax in the Fold 'n File Totes from Thirty-One. I have some Iris containers full of paper stacked on top of my Kallax but it is not ideal for those containers. I end up "shopping" my stash and pulling papers to put in my file totes for the projects I am working on currently and then I just pull from those.

I have a few of those cubes, but they are mostly the ones with drawers. They hold odds and ends. I also have several Alex drawer units from IKEA. Love those things. A couple sit under my work table. I also have two Raskog carts. I put the things I use a lot in them so they are easily within reach. For my closet, I have those metal industrial looking shelf units that are adjustable. I store most of my scrapbook paper in bins I got from the Container Store on them. Bins I use for paper and other 12x12 items. They hold a lot. I don't have a bookcase in my room, I wish I did.

I have old shelves with adjustable shelves that we had growing up! Just took them over from my parents. They're very sturdy although not deep enough for 12x12 albums which I have in my walk in wardrobe. They do work for paper though.i keep my 12x12 paper in clear bags standing up.
Other than that I have a clip it up on my table and rolling drawers underneath. My room is pretty small.
I'll try and find a couple of photos.

I have the Ikea shelving too, three 2x4 cube units. I keep my albums in the bottom level cubes because of their weight.
I don't think I have as much paper as you might, but I store it in plastic Sterilite 3 drawer units. Not pretty, but very functional.

I have 4 of these and then I store my paper pads and cardstock in the top portion of my armoire.

Did you think about a scrapbox or workbox? Not sure of the name right now.

I appreciate all the suggestions, as well as the photos.
I've been collecting for about 20 years, so my stash is very large. I want it well organized and easily accessible. If the shoe shelves hadn't started sagging, I would be content, but it is obvious that I need to find an alternative.
If anyone else has suggestions, I would love to hear them, too.
Thank you!

I have 2 of these in black in my room: Pottery Barn studio shelf I have albums on the bottom, 12x12 paper holders on the 2nd from bottom and magazine holders turned on their side for 8.5x11 on the 3rd from the bottom shelves. Very sturdy and good quality. I buy a lot of PB for the quality, excellent CS and good resale value. If you use Craigslist you may be able to find some that way. I have been considering getting a huge Kallax for one wall of my room...great reviews and very sturdy. Haven't decided if I will or not.

I have one of the knock-off Ikea cube units you can buy at Walmart or Target. It is the 2x2 and I have fabric bins in two of the openings and the other two are open. It's not Ikea, but it looks good and is sturdy. An Iris bin won't fit in the openings, but those plastic envelopes you can get for paper storage do fit. You could get a bunch of those in one of these units and they might be easier to flip through for paper than an Iris bin. It would make a decent closed storage unit for your space.

I had the same problem. I store a lot of my stuff in Iris bins because they hold paper so nicely. The problem with that is NONE of the scrapping cubes on the market right now actually fit those bins! I have an island made of CIS cubes that were big enough, but those aren't made anymore. I also have a bunch of 16" cubes that I bought on clearance at Target years ago, and those also can't be found anywhere anymore. The Jetmax cubes from Michael's and similar ones from Hobby Lobby are both too small to fit the bins. Because I specifically didn't want more junky wobbly plastic carts, I ended up having my shelf guy come back and build me a custom shelf unit that was designed to fit inside a big closet in my studio. It's the equivalent of about eight cubes and it fits ALL of the kinds of bins I'm currently using (Iris, Romanoff, Karen Foster, Options). I'm not going to lie, this thing wasn't cheap. I dropped about $500 on it because I wanted a freestanding shelf with a back on it so it would not only be sturdy but also if I ever want to pull it out of that closet and use it elsewhere I can do that. The shelf is made of heavy duty laminated wood and I think each shelf can hold something like 75-100 lbs. I've had it totally loaded down for about two years now and it's still holding up perfectly without any bowing. Also, most of the shelves are adjustable! Yes, it cost more than the commercially available cubes, but it holds the bins I need it to hold and I didn't have to reinvent the wheel.

I have a credenza that holds many of my collections and two ladder shelves that hold quite a bit. The rest is in three different closets in the white cubes. I have many feet of paper.

I have had my studio since 2002. The only consistency in my storage is change. Example; I have a Cuttlebug, but I got a great deal on a Vagabond. The Cuttlebug had a nice home on the back counter, but the Vagabond needs an outlet so it has to go on the front counter. Now stuff on the front has to be moved to the middle tables or the back counter and the Cuttlebug is no longer needed so it goes into a bag I now use to take to crops. Yes, the Cuttlebug travels and ironically the Vagabond stays home. Then there was a 15" guillotine cutter to replace the 12" slide cutter. Now my 250 sq. ft. studio is too small.

While this photo is an old one, I still have my paper stored this way. It works well for me. They are the JetMax/Recollections cubes with the Cropper Hopper Vertical Paper Holders.
