I have been having problems eating at times. Because of this I am considering either boost or ensure. Which one tastes better? Can you just buy one serving to try them?

I *think* you can buy them in single serving bottles.
My mom is underweight and has to drink them. She prefers chocolate Boost. My husband had to use supplements after a jaw surgery years ago and he claims that Nutrament is the tastiest. It's a little harder to find, but does come in single use cans.

When my dh was sick and unable to eat, a friend who did home nursing for years recommended he drink carnation instant breakfast with whole milk. She said it is comparable to boost and ensure. This would not be as expensive either. Eta cost savings would be if you mixed the packets with whole milk.

IDK but my DD is a Registered Dietician and she suggests Carnation Instant Breakfast. They used it when she worked in a hospital. It is nearly identical and way cheaper than Ensure or Boost. My DH drinks it because he just can't gain weight.

Ensure is okish. It's pretty much my main source of food due to a swallowing disorder. I have tried Nutrament in the past and it's so sickly, sweet that I didn't enjoy it.

We also had luck with Costco's Kirkland brand, too. Just putting that out there.

It's been many years since college, but the last time I had ensure it was still gross and the memories from college is that boost wasn't all that bad. I've had ensure when I've had dental stuff done and in college my friend had a ton of boost because his mom was scared he wasn't eating enough so I tried it because I couldn't believe it would taste good. I remember it being much sweeter.

If you don't like the milk based Ensure, they make a clear juice flavored one, too.

I drink Boost several times a week as a way to increase my fluid intake and get some vitamins. I am strange, as I quite like the taste of Ensure, but I would say Boost does taste better. I've recently switched to the Simply Complete ones. I think they taste a tad less chemically. I hadn't thought about using Carnation Instant Breakfast; I'll probably give that a try.
If you go to the Boost website, you can get a $2 off coupon. Any of these drinks, if you buy the ready made ones, are pretty expensive.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I will have to look at the ingredients on all of these. I am lactose intolerant so that makes things more difficult. I don't need to add another source to my upset intestinal tract.
I need to slow down my weight loss. My PCP checked on me recently via text and when I told him about my weight loss he said to up my protein intake. It is a good thing I have a lot of extra weight. If I were already thin this would be even more rough.

Your doctor may have samples or coupons to give to you. Which is "better" depends on your taste buds. I like the ensure butter pecan but not any of the other flavors.

I wasn't a fan of either. Someone recommended carnation instant breakfast. However, I'm a tubie, so it's a non-issue now.

I had hyperemesis gravidarum during my pregnancy with my son. There were many many days that these shakes were the only thing I could keep down so I got very familiar with them. I found the chocolate boost to be the most tolerable.

Special K has a shake too. I like it better than Carnation. But I went to look up if it's dairy and it just keeps saying great way to start the day.
Good luck.

Try premier protein ...they have all diffrent flavors and it doesn't have that artifical flavor. 30g of protein. I like the chocolate and vanilla...I mix fruit in the vanilla.

Special K has a clear protein drink that the peach is pretty good. Good for times you don't want creamy. Special K also has some coffeehouse flavors that are decent.
Of Ensure and Boost, my family preferred Boost in the strawberry flavor.

I drink store-brand equivalent of Boost. I also have nutritional needs and when I compared the contents the "Boost" had more of what I needed. I get it at wm & it comes in chocolate vanilla & strawberry (although I've never tried the chocolate ).

After reading the other responses I'm excited to try some of the non milk-based options. Does anyone have a good source for them? I haven't seen them before.
