I am trying to scan two 12 x 12's together to make one picture. My scanner will scan them, but I am not sure how to make them look like a single picture. I am scanning a left and right hand side of two 12 x 12 layouts. I know that the lower 1 inch will be removed and that is fine. I just want the picture to be one file on the computer.

Are you on a pic or a mac?
I'm on a pic and use a program called Microsoft ICE which you can get from the Microsoft site. It's a free program and I find it is easy to use and does a good job.

I use to use Pic Stitch to do this. I am certain there was a free trial period.

You can do digital reconstruction with almost any photo editing software, especially if you're fine with adjusting both "halves" manually. You've just got to look at the situation like this: you need to import each scanned part of the original large photo as a layer on a canvas (which you can create by putting in the dimensions you need and can always crop later on if there is any white space). You can do this in Photoshop, of course. If you don't have it, there's the free alternative called GIMP.

I think I've done this in Photoshop Elements in the past using the Photomerge option. But as sleepingbooty says, you can do it manually as well.

Depending what you are doing with the final image it maybe easier to just take a photograph of the LO.

I remember doing that back when I was submitting for publication. I had to stitch the layouts and I have no idea how I did it. These posts take me back there. Anyone remember having color copies made and then sending them out in a priority mail box? Then if they wanted it we had to send off the original?
