Krissy Female Caucasion I would have initially answered just like Cycworker with an initial reaction of "I have nothing to hide so what does it matter?" However, now that I am much more aware of what's going on in this country as far as specific groups of people being targeted because of race or what have you, I would definitely agree that probable cause should definitely be warranted before a search is made.

Sheesh. Why do people have to read so much into everything. Answer, don't answer. Let it go.
I'm probably too late, but just in case . . .
Michele female Caucasian Yes, because 'might have' could be looked at as probably cause

Cindy Female Caucasian As a staunch Libertarian and firm defender of the Bill of Rights, I'm gonna say no UNLESS probable cause is established (not just reasonable suspicion).

*Bold mine* ANYONE might have illegal drugs and/or weapons. Who decides who might have them? How do they decide? Is the question therefore asking "Do you think that it's okay for police to search ANYONE?" If that is word for word the question that was put to the students, then I would want to know from the teacher if it was meant to have the children really think and come to the conclusion that it would really be asking if it is okay for police to randomly search anyone without cause (which it isn't. It's illegal), or if it was a sloppy assignment with no forethought. Apparently this is related to the New York "Stop and Frisk" policy that was discussed in class. In 8th grade English? I could maybe see it, if it were a civics or government class.
