I wanted to get married at a nice Shinto shrine with a real Shinto priest presiding over the ceremony. The inlaws wouldn't have heard of it if I had said that as they have their own form of Shintoism that they tried to get me to believe in. Yeah mainstream was ok but the weird stuff no thanks. We got married at a wedding hall that had its own shrine in it. I think we had 40 guests witness the ceremony and then 100 people at the reception outside. The ceremony was really simple and kind of cool. He drinks from my sake cup 3x and I drink 3x from his. We exchanged rings and the priest waved his wand and we were done in 20 minutes I think.

Empty courtroom by a Justice of the Peace in San Angelo TX at 1pm. Our JOP wore a western "suit" and 🤠and it took 10 minutes from beginning to end. It was me, DH, BIL, and 2 friends. My BIL filmed all our feet during the ceremony. DH was going to go back to work after but i told him he could probably take the rest of the day (he was active duty AF).

In my in-laws house by the mayor of the city they live in. We celebrate 25 years on Tuesday, 3/14/17.
Oh, and my mother in laws hair caught on fire during the ceremony.
Ah, the memories.....

In the Methodist Church in my hometown 56 years ago. Both DH and I were living and working out of town, but my parents still attended the .church. The reception was held in the fellowship hall--- cake, punch, and mints/nuts. Probably cost less than $100. as my cousin made the cake.

A Presbyterian church in a small town. Hot summer afternoon and we had to choose between AC and the liturgical candles because the AC kept blowing out the candles. AC took priority that day.

Ceremony was held on my parent's farm, on their front lawn. We each had 2 people stand up for us. One was my sister who is my best friend. DH's best man is still his best friend. My Mom has quite the green thumb so we were next a large flower bed. There were flower pots that she brought from around the yard to put around the ceremony area. Then a 20 minute drive to town to the community hall for supper and the dance. About 120-140 people attended. We stayed until we locked the hall at 5am.

We got married in an old stone church in Seattle. Dh's dad performed half of the ceremony (he was a retired pastor).

In front of the waterfall in the Sun Garden of the Botanical Center. We were limited in the number of guests because of space and time of day. We had my parents, his mom, my brother and sister and their spouses, my brother's two step kids, his brothers and sister and two spouses, two sets of aunts and uncles on my side, my cousin and his wife and kids (baby didn't count in the total, and their daughter was in the wedding party), a video guy, and pictures were taken by my husband's first wife and her second husband.
The reception was open house style at the farm where I grew up, in the house where my brother now lives, his huge deck and the gardens outside. We had about 150 people for the reception.

We got married in a beautiful old church in the city where I grew up, but we brought our priest from NYC. It would have been too expensive for my extended family members to come to NY for a wedding.
Music was really important to me, and I wanted a glorious pipe organ sound. My mom was doing a lot of the scouting of churches since she lives there. I told her to walk in the door of the church and look around - if she did not see organ pipes, she should turn around and walk right back out the door. LOL! As it happened, the church we chose had a beautiful organ and a highly skilled organist.

In the 100+ year old church on campus at the college DH was attending at the time. My vote would have been to elope.

First time - on a beach in Hawaii.
Second time - in a tiny little wooden chapel in a little private beach community on Lake Erie. My husband spent his summers there when he was little and has been having friends reunions there since his group of friends were in college. Several of the college friends are married, some to each other, and we all bring our kids back every year for a long weekend. Some of those kids are in college and we might have another generation joining the tradition soon.

In the church I had gone to most of my life at that point. We had two officiants as we wanted my future FIL to be the officiant but he wasn't licensed in Oklahoma. So the minister for my church was the "official" minister of the ceremony (he had to sign the certificate) but my FIL did the vows and ceremonial sermon.

We were married at the top of the La Fonda Hotel in Santa Fe. The hotel is a historic hotel that when on top of it (there is a roof top garden), it over looks the Santa Fe Square and the Loretto Chapel. We had about 30 people there - mainly immediate family and best friends. Edited to add a link with photos. Tomorrow is my anniversary and I am all sentimental today! PHOTOS HERE

A very small church in the middle of nowhere...reception at the local dance hall down the road. DH and I grew up going to weddings in small churches/reception at a local dance hall with a polka band for music. By the time we got married, that kind of wedding was really dying out and we decided that we wanted a wedding like the ones we remembered from when we were kids, polka band and all. We had a blast!

I love the diversity of weddings here. I'll add my traditional Catholic wedding to the mix with around 250 guests at the reception.

It was a beautiful private outdoor wedding area along the Deschutes River in my hometown. The reception hall was right there, so we had the ceremony outside and then the reception inside and outside. I had wanted an outdoor wedding ever since I saw one in a park when I was little. My pastor at the time performed the ceremony. This was 23 years ago! Makes me sooooo homesick to look it up. www.wedding-spot.com/venue/3745/Aspen-Hall/

In 1982 at the Stimson-Green mansion. It was an unseasonable hot day in Seattle (I think the high was 93, and it was only June), and back then the building had no a/c. And I had a tulle skirted dress with about eleventy billion layers, as well as a pettiskirt. Did I mention that is was hot?

In my parish church - ridiculous now, looking back as I'd barely ever set foot in it before and we certainly weren't religious.
I wouldn't choose a church wedding again, it was just what happened.

In 1978, in the Presbyterian Church that I was baptized and confirmed in. Formal, traditional wedding. Reception in the Church Fellowship Hall - punch, cake, finger sandwiches, cheese straws, etc. ETA - In August, in NC - temps were close to 100*F.
I loved every minute of it!

At the Methodist church I was a member of in Baton Rouge. Beautiful wood finishes with two aisles. The bride walks down one and after the ceremony the couple leaves the church walking up the other one.

A smaller hotel/event space that had a pretty little courtyard garden with a gazebo for weddings.
