OMG - So brilliant - she uses the little balls that come in the silica desiccants packs to make a shaker card:

I saw something like that pass through my Pinterest Feed, but then isn't silica poison? Not that anyone I know would eat a card.

Neat idea. Thanks for sharing.
Silica is a mineral making up SAND. It can be in different forms and is a food additive. If you ate one of those packets you would probably be ok, the problem is more if kids ate a bunch of them they could have complications. That's what I remember, anyepway.

I guess I might be paranoid enough that one of my dogs would chew one (card) up and eat it. No thanks, better safe than sorry. I don't need to save money that badly.
ETA: the card is cute, though.

Now I want to make a shaker card. I can't believe a hoarder like me has been throwing those little packets A-W-A-Y!

I love that she figured out how to color them! And I hope that someday, I have so much enthusiasm for my creations (not snarky at all, I couldn't help but smile at how tickled she was with her card).

Good to know. I have been protectively making sure my dogs never set their eyes on them all these years. ETA: Oh look, maybe not so safe for animals and small children if swallowed intact. Silica gel is a drying agent, meant to remove moisture from an enclosed space. Silica gel packs may be found in boxes containing electronics or new shoes and inside purses or medicine bottles. The packets contain either granular silicic acid, which resembles sand, or tiny gel beads. Silica gel is non-toxic, meaning that it is not poisonous if eaten. The package says "DO NOT EAT" because (1) it is not food, and (2) it could be a choking hazard. The whole packet, granules, or beads may become lodged in the throat of a small child or animal.
Tips to remember for silica gel safety:
When bringing new items such as shoes, purses, or electronics into the house, look for silica gel packets and throw them away immediately. Before disposing of a silica gel packet, break it open, so it cannot be swallowed whole.
