I don't use these for cleaning because the feel of them gives me the creeps. I use white terry shop towels that get washed after every use (I have about 60 of them). I was reading the newest Real Simple magazine that all I am doing is pushing the germs around. So I guess my question is, if I am using cleaner and a clean towel to wipe down my counters or whatever, how am I spreading the germs around any more than the microfiber cloth.

I hear you on the feel of those microfiber cloths. I just got a shiver thinking about them!!
I also use those white shop towels to clean. I use them mostly on my bathroom tile floors.

Because the cotton towels don't absorb and contain the bacteria as completely as the microfiber towels do. Even if you're using a clean cloth each time, some of the contaminated liquid gets left behind. Because the microfibers pick up and hold more, there is less to smear around.
If you read the fine print on most of the commercial cleaners and bleach sprays, etc. it says the stuff has to sit WET on the surface of the sink, counter, etc. for something like TEN MINUTES to kill all or most of the bacteria. So if you spray and then ten seconds later wipe across it with a paper towel or cotton cloth, that bacteria isn't dead and it is just getting spread around.
And then on top of that, most of them say that if the surface is then to be used for food prep, the chemicals need to be rinsed off after sanitizing too.

I hate those microfibre cloths... my hands are so dry and they just feel gross against my skin.
what kinda germs are you talking about? I don't use any type of anti-bacterial cleaner on my counters at all. the only thing I really worry about is raw chicken juice. I do keep a separate cutting board for raw meat, which goes in the dishwasher. other than that, I just wipe my counters with whatever cloth is handy and warm water.

I do use microfiber clothes, and I have to put disposable gloves on first because the feeling gets to me too. I also use a steam to spray the kitchen countertops down. If I am going to be cooking, I will hit them with a vinegar spray, then a white cloth to get rid of the rest of the residue. Then I sanitize the countertop with the steam, wiping it with a microfiber cloth. I don't like to use the microfiber with any type of chemical and only use them after the steam cleaning. This may be overkill, but I have cats, and although I have never seen them on the kitchen counters, who knows where they walk when I am not home? I don't want litter box residue anywhere in the vicinity of food I am preparing. I also use a mild wash of vinegar on fruits and vegetables.

I guess I should have just asked if you were a microfibre cloth fan. I'm not particularly worried as I've been married almost 35 years and I haven't killed us yet. I don't wear gloves when I clean as I have a mild latex allergy and I haven't found any gloves for cleaning that don't have latex in them that I like.
Anyway, just thought it would be a fun thread about microfibre cloths....yeah or nea

Oh! LOL. Yes, I like them. I have a stack of the kitchen cloths and several microfiber hand towels for both the kitchen and bathroom from Norwex. I like that the hand towels seem to get my hands drier, quicker and the water evaporates from them faster than cotton towels too. The kitchen cloths, when wrung out and hung up never get stinky either.

Microfiber cloths give me the heebie-jeebies. They feel AWFUL!
But I can't address your question, I use paper towels for "dirty" cleaning (kitchen and bathrooms.) I just want that yuck wiped and thrown away. I use old dishtowels for dusting.
I pretty much just had to come in to express my hatred for microfiber cloths. *shudder*

He used to use them when he was an auto mechanic because he didn't like latex. I use nitrile for everything from cleaning, to shrimp peeling to nail polish removal (toes).

I use microfiber but am not 100% thrilled with them. I just bought some new ones from Home Depot and they seem to just push the dirt/dust around and I have to wipe again with a dry cloth after the damp one.

I don't have any issues with microfiber, even keep 'em in the car. BUT. How do you all clean your stove tops and ovens? Mine's a mess

After 45 years of cleaning, I use whatever rag I have and cleaner I have. I have microfibre kind and regular kind, whatever the mood hits is what I use. Oh and no the cloths don't bother me.... I just happened to buy a stack of them at Costco one time. I do like using them in the car.

Then we can hit the ladies room and celebrate the non-foot flushing.

Microfibre cloths give me the creeps too. I do have some, but prefer to use old dish towels or bar towels instead.

As an aside: Besides the shop towels that most Peas use to clean, what do you spray on the counters to clean with?? TIA!

I use a cleaning spray and paper towels.
I don't have microfiber cloths, but I do have a dusting mitt that I love. It's from Williams Sonoma.
