I want to start moving in the direction of down-sizing my scraproom. Right now, I am fortunate to have a large space but I know the time will be coming eventually where I will need to downsize into a much smaller room. I am good about purging the supplies I no longer like. However, I still have tons of stuff that rarely gets used because accumulating supplies requires much less time than using them . On one hand, I love finding "just the right" thing in my stash....on the other, that doesn't really justify me keeping things I rarely use. How do you decide what stays/goes when you still like the products but need to down size? ETA: And by "toss", I mean sell or donate

Once I got to that point, I started looking at volume. How much of a given thing do I need? How many types of red ribbon? How many sheets of a given paper? How many of each size of shipping tag? etc.

I also need to start purging because I have been scrapping and buying kits for almost 10 years and have too much stuff! It is all either in kits or organized by manufacturer line. I am thinking of going through and purging any paper line prior to 2010 that I DO NOT LOVE! I am hoping that this will make a difference!

When trying to decide what to keep or toss I ask myself "Do I love it?" because if the answer is no then I know I'll never use it so out it goes. I've never ever regretted purging any item from my house.

3 piles. Keep, donate, unsure. As the donate pile gets bigger, go thru the unsure pile again and make your decision. Also as your going thru everything you can put together kits with your old stash. It also freshens your mind with what you have

It also freshens your mind with what you haveI sort of put together kits with my old paper. I don't add embellishments. I just take my leftover odd sheets of pp and put them together in sets of 4 or 5 coordinating sheets. It helps to use up the last bits of a collection or a kit.
I have gotten rid of some paper that I had forever and I just knew I probably wouldn't use it. One thing I do now is just not buy certain things anymore. I rarely stamp, so I don't buy stamps. I'm not buying ribbon anymore. I have enough. Good luck cleaning out.

I've never ever regretted purging any item from my house. This is what I do too. Like others have said I also look at the volume of supplies - do I really need eleventy million packets of Prima flower centres or can I reduce them etc. I'm getting better at not 'over buying' but still have a lot of stuff!

I do this with clothing and kitchen equipment also.
I put everything I think I don't want into a box. I keep the box for at least six months. If I haven't dug it out by then, it goes bye-bye. My most recent purge was in February. So far I have taken out the decorative scissors and gave them to a gal at work. I sent the CM cutting system to a Refupea. I've used a few of the Cricut cartridges. So, basically all that remains in the box is unwanted (aka ugly) paper (will take to the school) and Quickutz.
Oh, I also had a big box of stickers, but took those out. I'm not a big sticker girl, but for some reason I can't part with them. I've tried several times.

I've never ever regretted purging any item from my house. While I am terrible at purging, this is definitely a great way to go. Just because I have it doesn't mean it will ever make it on a page. I really need to chant this over & over to myself the next time I purge. Great tip!

The question I ask myself is "If I didn't already own it, would I buy it?". There are lots of popular products that I wouldn't, such as wood veneer, distress stickles, etc. They are great products but not really my personal style: when I used them the page looked "forced" and not like the rest of my LOs. And since I am organized by color, the other question I ask myself is "How many red buttons do I really need? Really?"
When I sort, I often make kits with the older products. There are lots of challenges out there to make use of older ingredients. I also sometimes scraplift myself to use up older stuff.
Most importantly, since I've discerned my true style, I learned to stop buying stuff that really doesn't fit into that style, even if it is the hottest.product.ever. If I just say no, there's no excess to store, sort, and purge.

Thanks, everyone! I think my biggest hang-up is that I have lots of products that I really like/love....but I don't use them. My scrapping style has evolved over the years to simple and more PL style scrapping. It is much harder for me to let go of these things because "if" I scrap traditional pages, I would use them. However, it has been a long time since I have scrapped a traditional page. I especially think the volume tip is a good one for me. It might be easier to let go if I keep a few of the items.

One thing that has helped is to ask myself if I would like to use that item today, would I enjoy putting it on a page right now?

When I did a purge recently, I decided to give the items to a children's hospital locally, so asking myself "Would they enjoy this more than I would?" was a great motivator to purge things I was on the fence about, before that I asked myself "Could/Would I make a layout with this right now?", if the answer was "No", then it went into the purge box.
