So sad. The last three times that I have tried to use my pressure cooker, it has not built up pressure. I thought at first that it was something that I was doing wrong, but no, it is sick. I just bought it in April and loved it from the first time that I used it. (Thanks Pea Enablers) Now, I don't want to live without one. I called Cruisiant today and they just asked whether it would build up pressure and I said no. They are sending me a new one. Not totally free though. I have to send them a $10 check in the box when I return the old pressure cooker. I also have to pay shipping to send it back after the new one get here. I am okay with that, but they said it would take about 2 weeks for the new one to get here. I use that thing 3-4 times a week. I did some research and decided to go ahead and order a backup one, so if one goes bad, I still have one to use. There have been times that I wished that I had two to use at the same time. If you have a Cruisiant and it stops building pressure, call them. I am thinking that this might be a common problem with this brand. This is the new one that I orded. It should be here Thursday. Me too - for some reason I have a fear (from where it came from I don't know) of a sudden build up of pressure and it exploding. I've stayed away from them but very curious what you make that prompts you to use it so often?

That is a lot of skeered, so I have a lot of catching up to do. When this pressure cooker got here and I used it the first time, I was hooked. It is so easy to use and not scary at all. Sometimes I cook meat in it, or green beans or corn or baby red potatoes or soup and so much more. I have a recipe for southern green beans that is delicious and cooks so fast. There is almost always some part of the meal that can be cooked in a pressure cooker. I do use it a lot. You should try one.

It's that vision in my head of the time when I was a kid. That darn thing exploded and there were carrots every where. I mean everywhere. For months Mom was finding carrot remains in every crack and space in the kitchen. Fortunately none of us were in the kitchen when that thing blew. I think today's cookers are probably much better. However I have yet to even consider one. Shudder!!

Have you checked out the reviews on Amazon? I did a lot of research before ordering and many of the brands had problem-solving suggestions in the reviews in case things weren't working right.
That being said, I still need ideas on how to use mine. I just got it a few weeks ago and so far have only used it once, on the slow cook function. I am not sure how to adjust recipes for the pressure cooker? I also can't find anything in my manual that says the minimum amount of water to use.

I've never used one. I had one for maybe 20 years but finally sold it at a yard sale. I just never knew what to do with it. Glad you get a lot of use out of yours.

I did not find any problems reported with the newest one that I ordered. I still like my Cruisinat and hope that this replacement holds up. I will just feel better having a backup. I also cook boneless chicken breast and frozen/fresh vegs for my dogs. The pressure cooker does a fantastic and fast job. Here is a website that I have been referring to for cooking times, recipes, etc. while I am learning to use the pc. The cooking time charts are the most helpful. The manual that came with your pressure cooker should have information on how much water to use as well as a few recipes. What brand and size of pressure cooker do you have?

A friend of mine would take hers to a hardware store that did repairs and they fixed it for her (but this was 20 years ago).
I'm in the tempted to try but skeered b/c of horror stories I've heard.

My mom had one when I was a kid and I was terrified of that thing. She used it for canning, not cooking. It had this floaty, valve thing on top that steam would come out of. I'd skeedaddle out of the kitchen when that thing started rocking back and forth and whistling.

I heard about and saw some of the hazards of pressure cookers years ago and have been deeply scared by that also. I promise you, if I can get past that and learn to love a pressure cooker, you can too. The electric pressure cookers are much safer. I have never heard of one of them blowing up. I felt safe from the first time that I used it and thrilled when I discovered just how easy it was. Try it. You may be surprised too.

A product from an expensive company like Cuisenart stopped working after 4 months? I wouldn't pay them to replace your defective product, much less buy another. Try the store where you purchased it from. Maybe they can help you.

In all fairness, they should not charge shipping, but I agreed to it, so I will send it to them. I will just be happy to have a working pressure cooker. I have been spoiled now.

I am fascinated by them, but also scared. MIL was cooking a roast in her stovetop one (probably close to 18 years ago) and it exploded all over the kitchen ceiling, cabinets, floors. EVERYWHERE. They moved shortly thereafter, but I'm (almost) certain it didn't have anything to do with not being able to get the roast remains out of all the nooks and crannies.

To those of you that have been scared by an explosion of a pressure cooker in your past, you don't know what you are missing. The electric ones are so much better, so much safer. I am so thankful that I braved it out and tried it. Now, I don't want to be without one. However, I would go without one if the only one that I could have would be the stovetop one. No way, no how. I am not ever going to be that brave.

I still have the one I got as a wedding gift back in 1979. I used the heck out of it when I cooked dinner every day but I hardly cook anymore and haven't used it in years.

And I don't think pressure cookers and crock pots are meant to do the same type of job at all. There are uses for both.

I have a pressure cooker/canner but I've only ever used it for canning. I wouldn't have any idea what to cook in one. I'm not fond of roasts and I honestly don't know what else I'd use it for. Mine is a stovetop one, designed more for canning, so it's not something I'd probably want to cook in because babysitting the pressure valve sucks. I love canning vegetables though! It has safety features, it's really not scary.
