I don't know much about new cars, but it seems like the cameras are pretty standard now, as are keyless driving. Super weird if you have an older car like I do. Mazdas have great safety standards, based on two people I know who have new cars and purchased based highly on safety.

I loved my Mazda CX-7 so I'd highly recommend but I'm wanting to downsize so looking at a Mini Cooper. If I wasn't wanting a small car I'd go for either a Mazda CX-5 or Hyundai Tucson based on safety ratings and I like their features. Happy searching! I really hate car shopping and am glad I've narrowed my search to one, now it's just the colours! Lol.

Dh and I both have the Kia Soul. We love them. Maybe a little too much road noise, but mine is about to turn over 100,000 miles and the only thing I have ever had done is the front brakes. Never another issue.I'm intrigued by the Kia Niro, but would never buy a first year model. I dislike Fords- I find them incredibly uncomfortable to drive. I am short and have to sit far too close to the steering wheel in any Ford I have ever tried. It just feels cramped.

I just bought a new car a year+ ago and was looking at the Mazda CX-5 and the Subaru Forester. Consumer reports gave them both good scores (I think they were 1 and 2 for small SUVs). I really expected to get the Mazda CX-5 because I already had a Mazda and loved it. I liked them both when I test drove them but thought the Subaru had a better turning radius. I ended up getting the Subaru because I got more options for my money/a better deal. I think I would have been happy with either though. If you have winter driving the Subaru is great. We just had that blizzard with 30 inches and I had to work. I had no problems getting in and home with it. My best option and one that I will always make sure to get is heated seats! Love them. The rest I could do without.

I've been driving my Kia soul for 4 years now. Love it. When I decide it is time to turn it in I plan to buy either another soul or a Niro. I like the Niro because it is a hybrid and is supposed to get 50 miles per gallon.

Is the Toyota Venza or Toyota Rav4 in your price range? They both get great safety ratings. I am a big Toyota fan, they are just long lasting vehicles.

Another vote for Kia Soul. I have a 2013 and I like it almost better than my 2016 Jeep Renegade.

I have a Mitsubishi Outlander Sport and I really like it. It's great in the snow, and though I rarely do, I like being able to use the paddle shifters occasionally. I've really gotten used to the keyless features too, the back up camera and heated seats too. We have a Lancer also, and have no complaints with Mitsubishi at all. We've also had several Hyundai's over the years, our son has one now, and I have nothing bad to say about them either.
