My dh took my other one for traveling and has basically taken it over completely. We cannot travel with just one camera. I'm not fussing about it though because that camera was years old. So I'm going to get myself a new one. Are they basically all the same? The one dh took has the ability to zoom in which I'm kind of assuming it standard. Otherwise I just want a camera that's better than my phone, and where I can take a lot of photos without filling up my stupid phone's storage. Any one that you all recommend? eta: yes I've googled. And looked on Amazon. But you know how it is... Amazon reviews include people who say "BEST CAMERA EVER!" along with the ones who say, about the same camera, "this camera sucks, never buy it". So I always like to ask real people what they've used.

We have 2 Olympus p&s. I still carry mine and use it over my phone. Love the picture quality.
My husband now uses his phone because it is more convenient.
ETA: Mine is pink. I picked it because my men won't ask to borrow my pink camera. LOL

Do you also use your phone camera?
I do, but I don't like using it in bright sunlight because I can't see images on the screen! That's why I like my (very old) Olympus point and shoot with the viewfinder instead of just the screen.
You mentioned that your other camera is older, so I just wanted to point out that a viewfinder is not automatically included now. Just make sure you know what you are getting.

I'll be honest and tell you my iPhone 7+ has a better camera than any old point and shoot I've ever used.

I bought an Olympus TG-4 not long ago. I like it a lot. I bought this one to replace my last waterproof camera that was close to 10 years old and the seal was leaking a bit - not a good thing when you're snorkeling. Lots of options with this one, or just plain old point and shoot. I gave my old Canon to DH, it's also pretty old but holding up well. Not sure of the model # of that one but I know it's so old you couldn't find one now. Canon or Olympus - hard to go wrong IMO.

I love, love, love my Canon Powershot XS720. It is small, lightweight and I carry it in my purse where ever I go. It has a powerful zoom and the photos are great. Plus it is wifi enabled. I like to scrap with the PL app and I can just turn on my wifi and send the photos I want directly to my phone or tablet in just a second or two. Best little point and shoot that I have ever owned.

I have a Panasonic LUMIX which was recommended by a friend a few years ago but I never use it now. I just use my IPhone.

I also love my Panasonic lumix . Mine is an older one I bought second hand last month and I couldn't believe the difference between it and my previous p&p compact camera .

I just bought this yesterday at Walmart because it was $50 cheaper. I done a ton of research and found this camera to be the best. I like that has a wide angle lens. I haven't had a camera with wifi before and was worried does it drain the battery? Are you only doing this when you're at home connected to your wifi? I don't mind just connecting the cord to the camera.

I haven't found that it drains the battery but I don't have it on all the time. Basically, you turn it on, then go to your phone/tablet - connect to it (like any other wifi) then open the app on your phone and select the photos to transfer. I only turn it on when I am transferring photos. I typically do like you and download through the connecting cord or the SD card but it is handy when I am a place other than home and want to transfer it from my camera to my phone. For example...I was in Savannah, GA and taking photos with my camera - that evening while reviewing them, I found one I wanted to post on FB so I just transferred it from my camera to my phone by wifi and was able to post on FB that night (instead of having to wait until I returned home and connected to my computer). I don't use it a TON but it is a handy feature. I also got the camera cheaper than it is currently listed on Amazon - I did purchase from Amazon but it was on sale at the time.

Thanks for the recommendations. I realized that I have a $40 gift card to Best Buy so I guess I'll go on over there and take a look at the ones you've recommended. Yes I use my phone, for whoever asked that up thread. But the storage seems to get full so fast that I'd like to use a camera for when I'm taking a lot of photos, like when we go on vacation. The phone is great for when my dog does something cute or there's a great sunrise or something like that, but for a vacation I know the phone storage will make me crazy. lol

That will help!

I bought an Olympus TG-4 for our last vacation and couldn't be happier. Takes great pictures and it's easy to use. It's also waterproof, so no worries at the beach or the pool.

I don't understand how any of that works.

I'm thinking that waterproof is the way to go because we're going to spend a week on a houseboat! And do a lot of kayaking and hanging around near water.

I would recommend getting a float strap for a waterproof camera so that if you drop it, it won't sink to the bottom of the lake/ocean. SaveSave

You mentioned that your other camera is older, so I just wanted to point out that a viewfinder is not automatically included now. Just make sure you know what you are getting. It is practically impossible to find a P&S these days with a viewfinder. So annoying. I use mine (which is also waterproof) a lot in the water and at the snow, and a lot of the time the glare off the screen is so bad you just have to point and shoot and hope for the best! I'll be honest and tell you my iPhone 7+ has a better camera than any old point and shoot I've ever used. Yes, DSO's Samsung 7 takes much better photos and video than my P&S. The only reason I've even still got a P&S is because it's waterproof. Plus I prefer to use a camera on trips so I don't use up the battery on my phone.

Full of what I have no idea, but I keep getting a message that the phone can't back up because of that. I don't understand how any of that works. 50 GB of storage in iCloud is $0.99 per month (this is what I have and I haven't come close to filling it). $12 per year is a LOT less than a camera. But, if you have your heart set on a camera, my dh bought me a GoPro knockoff link which is water proof and will take both video and still photos. We are going to use it snorkeling next month! And, it is only $85. It is something to consider.
