What a great story! It's nice to see an "ordinary" person's life change in an instant.

What a great thing to happen for him and hopefully it helped to make life a lot easier for him after struggling to make ends meet because of the injuries he sustained in the car crash! Years and years ago on BBC Antiques Roadshow I remember seeing an American gentleman, who lived in England, bring in a family painting that he had inherited. When he was told what it was worth he almost went into total shock and could only say 'well, well, well' because he had thought it wasn't worth much and had just taken it in on a whim! I sometimes catch a re-run of that episode and that is still my favourite bit!! There have been a few of those moments since the programme started in 1979 but that is one of the treasures for me! Not sure I would enjoy keeping anything that had suddenly had great value put on it - I wouldn't know how to keep it safely and would worry about it every time I left the house.

Very cool story. I only wish I hadn't read any of the comments. Why do people have to put stuff out there and then be vague about it. If you truly know something then spit it out! Otherwise shut up.
I'll try to forget those remarks and just remember the feel good video.

I'll try to forget those remarks and just remember the feel good video. I know what you mean. I saw a few negative comments - or maybe things adrressed to whoever posted something negative - and stopped reading. I'm not there for the drama. That's what NSBR is for.

I've never seen a follow-up where the item was actually sold.

That made me tear up and smile at the same time. Call it whatever you want to, that man was meant to see that particular show that day! I'm calling it God. He looked so shocked and bewildered that all of his money problems are now gone. After all the worrying and careful penny pinching, trying to make it on his disability amount. That was a feel-good story that I'm going to pass around. Thanks, Jen!

It was cool too to see even the appraiser's response. He was like "I have been privileged to see this and will never see this again in my life." Very much in awe.

I love Antiques Roadshow. I just saw an older lady getting some very old baseball cards appraised, well over a million dollars. She is not selling, they have been in the family for a few generations, she was going to keep passing them down. It is always good to see real people get a surprise like that. I am unable to see the video right now, so I will have to watch when I get home.
