I'm in the middle of revamping my bedroom and I am trying really hard to find a ceiling fan that is not extraordinarily ugly. I need the function of a ceiling fan desperately and I realize that they are not typically "pretty" items but I'm hoping to find some decent compromise. My budget is up to $300. Anyone have ideas of where to shop or can you post photos of your own pretty ceiling fan?

Pretty... no. There's no such thing. IMHO, you have several options. If you have decently high ceilings - at least 10 feet - and vaulted is better - throw up the most simple, unornamented white fan you can find. Your eye will basically ignore it. If you are into the modern aesthetic - you can find some funky, art like fans - but it might be tough in your price range. I saw a single arm, really funky fan at a specialty light store - sorry no pic, but I'd guess it was in the $500 range. If you're more of a traditionalist - embrace the whole British Colonial theme and make the fan part of the decor:

I suppose pretty is in the eye of the beholder. We found some at Lowe's that are large paddled deep brown ones with a pretty metal. They look a bit like they could be from the islands. I think they are pretty especially because they are replacing the 1980's brass ones we used to have.

I am not a ceiling fan fan but I saw some cool ones at Lowes (last year). They were very retro-40s industrial looking. If I wanted ceiling fans I'd totally go with those.

Ok, I will have to look at Lowes. So far I have just looked online and at Home Depot. I am painting the room grey including the ceiling so I had thought about doing a brushed nickel finish going for the blended look. My house is old though and the ceilings are only about 8 feet.

Have you looked on Amazon? I looked briefly and they have tonnes of ceiling fans listed, lots within your price range. I just bought two light fixtures from there, and it was so much better (and cheaper!) than running around to half a dozen home improvement and lighting stores.

I never thought to look on Amazon for a fan. Great idea!

We have these ones. They move a lot of air so keeping it on low or medium does the trick. Love these. I don't get the light kits because I hate them, but they are an option if you like. They come with a remote control. Altura Ceiling Fan

We have two that we really like, they are ?Hunter brand like ceepea mentioned. One of them the metal part was whiteand I wanted it to match the metal on our bed, so I painted it myself. It is that dark gold color with black kind of burnished on it. Matches our bed exactly and looks more expensive and nicer than the white metal did. They really do help cook down a house.

Yes, I have one but the one we have is definitely not in your price range Look at Lampsplus.com. They have a huge selection, free shipping and maybe no tax to your state. They have everything from island to super contemporary and everything in between. We have Artemis in Cherry. Love it

I will check out that site, thank you! I do definitely have to have a light kit on it because that room is a dark pit of despair without a ceiling light. I found a couple ok looking ones on Amazon for really cheap so if nothing else I can try one of those and I think they would look ok. I always worry about buying something so cheap though. Is it actually going to move the air? LOL.

We have this ceiling fan in our bedroom and I think it's pretty. (It's from Lowes but it's special order)
We also have the Altura from Home Depot that someone else linked in our family room and three of that same fan (but the outdoor version) on our patio

We have five ceiling fans. They aren't pretty, but they aren't ugly either. To me they are functional like an iron We've gotten most of ours at Lowe's.
