This semester I am embarking upon Clinical Psychology (lecture and 6 hour clinical), Med/Surg (lecture and 8 hour clinical), and Pharmacology.
I Am Freaking Out
I am both excited and nervous to be taking this semester's line up of classes - mostly psychology. Excited that I get to be in the hospital on the unit working with licensed RNs as my mentors, but so nervous about the psych part!! My clinical group will be at the state hospital rather the local hospital like some other groups.
On one hand I know that I will get a very in-depth and complete view of the mental health care system since the patients I will be dealing with are at a much longer term care facility and for much involved issues than what they deal with at the local hospital - which is a great experience to have!! On the other hand though I am very nervous about the fact that we will also be exposed to the criminally insane/mentally ill as part of our rotation. I don't know that I am emotionally able to handle some of the things that the clinical groups from last semester have shared with us as far as the types of patients they cared for.
I know these are my own issues and I can not let them cloud my ability to care for my patients....but I still am having trouble talking myself in to being rational and caring for a person who is a sexual predator, when I have suffered abuse myself. I know that as a nurse I will have to care for all people regardless of their background, it is just a struggle for me at this time and I am praying that maybe I can find some peace for myself in this experience.

I start back on 03SEP. I am upgrading my Biology 20 (fall) and 30 (winter) so I can apply to the Speech Language Pathology Assistant program in April.

I am in the final stretch of my Sociology degree. I am taking Theories in Sociology, and a class that is focusing on alcoholism. It's a light load this semester, but I will have my hands full with one of my professors. He is ready to retire and a little grumpy.

My semester starts September 3rd. I have Managerial Accounting and Foundations of Finance. Should be hard work but it will just put me another semester closer to done.

Fall semester starting here on Monday. Microbial Physiology, Microbial Diversity, and Ecology & Evolution...all with labs. Going to be a rough semester, but this should put me in a good position to graduate in May. Woohoo!

Good luck everyone! I had my "last first day" on Monday. Once I get all my assignments written on my calander and stop feeling like I have to do it all this week end I'll be ok.

I start the acute Nurse Practioner program today. Not overly thrilled about it for a few reasons but know this is what I need to do. I got online earlier this week to look for some class info and I nearly had a "come apart" just trying to navigate all the online crap. It just made me so stabby!!! I am also not looking forward to writing papers and having due dates. I guess I'm just not excited about all the classroom stuff but am looking forward to the labs and clinicals. I am also going to miss my current job in the ER and with trauma. We just dont utilize NPs in that capacity where I work. I know another opportunity will present itself but I know I'll miss that work.
Good luck to everyone going back!!!

I start Fall Semester on Monday 8/25. I'm nervous and excited to be going back to school after 17 years. Good for you! I went back after 16 years and I have not once regretted it. Plus it flies by! Are you going full time? What degree are you seeking?

I'm starting my last semester of undergrad Monday. I actually am dual enrolled in the accelerated master's program as well. So I'm taking all Master's level classes that will double count so I will graduate in December with my bachelor's in public health and then I will complete my Master's degree in May 2016. I'm working towards my MPH in Environmental Science and Occupational Health. I can work for places like OSHA (everyone always asks me what that degree is!) I'm really excited!

I start Fall Semester on Monday 8/25. I'm nervous and excited to be going back to school after 17 years. I went back after 30 years out of the classroom. I have had more FUN. School as an adult is a whole different outlook than at 18-19. I have not regretted it one bit (well, maybe the night before finals )

I only take one or two classes at a time. I'm just finishing up a summer semester in archaeology and starting an ethnobiology class right away.
Have a great semester everyone!

And those kids will text you at the crappiest times of day! I forget what it's like to be awake and raring to go at 11:30pm. lol. Gotta love group work. That's hasn't changed! It's totally weird to be the same age or older than professors at first too. I had one tell me we should go to lunch and then said "Well I guess that might be weird but after grades post, we should hang out!".

My sister has a degree in archaeology and is wrapping up her master's and doing her student teaching to teach middle school science. And I feel you, I just did a full internship over summer and had a whole week off that is filled with meetings and orientation for grad students. So much for that "summer break".

My degree will be in anthropology with a specialization in archaeology. Some universities offer separate degrees in each but mine only offers the specialization. Eventually I'll do my Masters in Heritage and Social History but I'll probably be ready to retire by the time I finish it!

Congratulations to all of you!! I'm currently pulling transcripts together to start classes in the spring to finish my Elementary Ed degree. I'm so nervous because I was not a good student and I'm afraid of flunking out.

Good luck ladies!!! I'm happy to say that I am done! I graduated in May with an Associates of Applied Science in clinical laboratory science - and since everyone asks - I'll be working in the lab at a hospital (and, yes, I can draw blood, but the main part of my job comes after the blood is drawn). I spent all summer studying for my national certification exam, which I took last week, and found out today that I passed.

I'm taking 2 courses (Interpersonal Communication and Group Dynamics) this subterm. Both courses have the potential to be really interesting as well as useful for my new job, which makes me happy.
I really need a swift kick in the backside motivation-wise, though. I'm finding the way the courses are set up in the Human Services Counseling program at Liberty U to be a bit condescending and a lot frustrating, which destroys my motivation. We're all graduate students, we should know how to write papers. They force you into a particular process for writing the required papers which is different than I have been taught. I have been finding it very difficult to change how I write papers so I can turn in the intermediate writing assignments. I wish they would stop forcing us into a particular process and just allow us to write the darn papers and be done with it.

Starting Monday...I've been going every semester, including summers, taking two classes each semester. I took this past summer off. I really needed a break with starting a new job and dealing with teen world over the summer.
Taking Biology 102 lecture and also lab, for a total of three mornings a week. I get to dissect a pig fetus. OMG. Hope I can deal.
