I just tried to use Facebook on my iPad and now my computer.
I got the following message:
Your Account Is Temporarily Locked We've locked your account because someone recently tried to log in from an unfamiliar location. Please help us confirm that it was you who tried to log in
Anyone else have this happen? Is this legit or just a way to get me to change my password for a scammer.
My personal page is locked down. I never use it for anything. I don't post messages or pictures. Nothing. Nada.
I only use FB to access Crafting, Garage Sale and Genealogy groups. No business or personal groups. It's all really benign, boring stuff.
So, Legit or not? I backed out of FB and closed the page to be safe.

I think that if you got the message when actually logging into the site or the app, it is legit. If you had received an email, I would tell you to go directly to the page. They would have had to hack Facebook to hijack both your iPad and computer.

I have another one, I saw a post that interests me in a facebook group so I message the person who I don't know and he messaged me a voicemessage. Is that spam? I'm scared to open it to listen to it.

did you log in on a device you never had before? was it the first time you'd logged in on your iPad? that might be why you got the message... if you didn't do anything like that, I'd wonder why you were getting a message like that.

If you got a random email notification and haven't tried to log in, then it is likely a scam. Try logging in, if you get the message again follow the prompts on what to do.

Since you messaged him first it likely isn't spam. He may just prefer voice assisted messages. I dislike trying to type on my phone's screen so I use voice when possible.

Not an email. No new device. It popped up on my computer too. Once your account is locked by facebook it is locked on all devices. It can be locked because you used a new device, or attempted to log in from a new isp. Or someone has made an attempt at hacking you.

How are you supposed to confirm it's you? Do you have to show ID matching the facebook name? We had a thread here recently about a pea who couldn't do that. lol

I'm going to make sure I'm logged out of all of my devices, then try to log in on my MacBook. I took screen shots of the lock-out notice I received just in case I need to contact FB.
Apparently I was in Thailand 2hrs ago. On an android HTC. (Nope. I'm an iPhone/iPad/Macbook user.

Happened to me, I got an email, said pretty much what yours said. I contacted my SIL who works in computer security. He said it was not legit. Then I tried to go to FB and I was locked out with exactly what happened to you. I called my SIL. He stayed on the phone with me and basically all FB asked was a few questions, did I log in at 2am? Well no, So I needed to change my password. Haven't had a problem since. Crazy huh?

I received the same message on Sunday. My DD (the computer geek) came over on Monday and opened up the e-mail on my phone and went through a few things, came up with the IP address and we found it was a scam. If you know how to get the IP address check that.

If it was an email I would question it. If it popped up when I was trying to actively log in online, it's probably legit. Someone just tried to hack DH's FB account last week and he was prompted to change his password at the site.

This was on the FB app. So I went to Facebook.com on my MacBook and changed my password. Hopefully, that takes care of it.
Thanks to all!
