I've always heard of using clear fingernail polish on them. I'm very itchy too tonight from mosquito bites, I hope we both relief soon!

OOh, I hate those no-see-um, chiggers, midges, sand fleas, whatever you want to call them. And seeing as I probably have 15 different anti itch creams, lotions, potions, etc, that all work fairly well, the one you probably have without having to go out is deodorant or rather anti-perspirant. That nasty smelling pine tar soap works really well, a ointment called Chigger-ex is good, Cortisone, tea tree oil, Benadryl in various forms, and Stop-Bite are ones I can think of without going to look thru the itchy box.

If you live where they sell Dr Tishnor's, it has always helped me with bites. I have a bottle I bought on a trip to Baton Rouge several decades ago that still works.

Worst itching I have ever had. DH and I both got them. We used something that was like calamine lotion but made for chiggers. You have my sympathies!

Yeah those are horrible! I just am barely getting over a case of poison ivy and caladryl clear helped with the itch some. I have heard the nail polish remedy too, but have never tried it.

Dealing with fireants here was enough for me! I was warned never to scratch them or you'll end up scarred for life (I didn't, and still ended up with a bullseye scar!). Yuck!

I am so very sorry! That might sound dramatic but seriously those things are a bear. I have it a couple times (once as a child and another time 2 years ago) in my life and I never found anything to rid of them but time. I did try numerous things but dang those things itched horribly!

I've lived here in Texas for the past 24 years and just recently, a month ago, have encountered the dreaded chigger bites for the first time. My daughter and I went out to take pictures of some wildflowers for a school project and we ended up walking through lots of wildflowers and fields with tall grass and weeds. Big mistake. The next day I started itching like crazy and had bites all over. I have dealt with being bitten by fleas (from our dogs) and dealt with itchiness from the mites that cause mange and I've suffered from my share of fire ant bites but these chiggers have been by far the worst that I have dealt with. I literally had chigger bites going everywhere, even up my butt crack! It was awful and it took more than a week to stop itching. Some of the bites itched for much longer than that. I even had to suffer a second round of chigger bites when I took my dog walking around the edge of a field last weekend and now I have about five bites that I'm digging at. It's miserable!
One of the things that I have discovered is that Vicks Mentholatum helps soothe the itch of the bites. It doesn't take it away forever but it really works as far as helping curb the itching for a while. You might have to reapply in a couple of hours but try it, it will make you feel better!

Clear nail polish is the best treatment. It basically suffocates the little buggers. You can also scratch them out. If you have a magnifying glass you just look for the little teeny tiny red spot in the middle of the bite. That is the little chigger. Growing up in the South you learn to live with and treat them.

Chiggers are miserable. Fortunately, we don't seem to have them around here, but I remember getting bitten all over my legs years ago. Thanks for sharing the methods for dealing with them.

Caladryl (calamine lotion) is really good for chiggers to.
I grew up in the south, and goodness knows I spent my childhood doused in calamine lotion for every bite known to mankind.
But, if I remember correctly, one of the reasons that caladryl works well is that it "dries" on the surface of the skin and keeps the little buggers from moving around along with the anti-itch properties.

I use After Bite on them. They are horrible. My son seems to be a magnet for them.

My mom always made a paste of meat tenderizer and water to put on our skeeter and chigger bites, and that seemed to work pretty well.

Chiggers are of the devil. I've had them 3 times and the only solution I had was to take Benadryl at bedtime and Zyrtec during the day to try to help.
My friend swears that rubbing listerine on the bites helps a lot. Plus, it makes you smell minty fresh all day, so there's that.
I feel for you!

Just use a knife to cut off the affected part. It's less painful.
I'm mostly kidding.
I'm dealing with one (ONE! Who gets just ONE chigger bite? NOT that I'm complaining about just one!) that is pure hell right now. It's right in the fold of the front of my ankle, and I may just chop off my foot.
