I realized years ago that I didn't enjoy making cards. For the few that I send each year I just buy them. Now my mother attends lots of SU card making classes. She has quite the stash of homemade cards, but my mother never gives them to anyone. We all receive store bought cards for our birthdays lol.
I always read about lots of you talking about making cards. So do you hoard them or give them?

I make cards every month for my fitness studio friends, and Bunco ladies. I just hand those out. I never mail them out, because I layer mine, and don't want to pay extra postage.

You have always been a part of the heist. You're only mad now because you don't like your cut.

I have a stash from SU classes that I give away when needed. I also make cards a la carte that I give away as soon as I make them.

I make cards for birthdays, Christmas and thank yous etc. I have a small stash for unexpected events. I'd much rather make than buy.

I send mine - I keep a small stash on hand divided by type and replenish as a category gets low/empty.
I write letters (in blank/thinking of you/hi/hello/just a note type cards) every single week to my son, my mum, my mum's best friend who is in assisted living now, and a former co-worker who is elderly and home bound.
I write thank you notes regularly.
I send holiday cards for New Years, Valentine's Day, St Patrick's Day, Easter, 4th of July, Hallowe'en, Thanksgiving, St Nicholas Day...to my weekly correspondants as well as my Army grand-niece, my Coast Guard grand-niece, my best friend and my sisters.
I haven't made Christmas cards in a while but when I do, I make about 50-ish to send.
I also make veteran's day cards for DH, 2 nieces and 2 nephews as well as Armed Forces Day cards for grand-niece, grand-nephew, nephew, and DS.
And of course, birthday cards and get well cards and sympathy cards...
I think I probably make and send around 400-500 cards a year.

It's mostly in person. I try to make them ahead of time because it seems when I DO need them, I don't have enough time because I can't leave my mess out. I typically do them assembly line style so I have quite a few duplicates of the same Valentines/Christmas/Birthday card. So I guess hoard them with the intent of giving them away. I have containers I store them in and when they get too full, I don't make more. It's managed hoarding.

I give them away, some in person and some via mail. I try to make all of my birthday and Christmas cards. My mom and some of my friends particularly enjoy homemade cards, so I make an effort to create something special for them. I try to have a healthy stash of cards on hand. It feels very gratifying to "save" money on cards by giving homemade...greeting cards can be so pricey that it usually works out cheaper to make them.

Except for Christmas cards, which I make batches of in October and then send out in December, I tend to make cards for specific people and then hand deliver or mail them. I have a small stash of cards created at SU! classes. I use them if I don't have one of my own design.
Haven't bought a card from a store for a long time.
I want to make a batch of Sympathy and Get Well cards, because I never feel like making them when I need them, but have not done that yet.

I make more than I send, except Thank You cards - I'm always running out of those!
My stash is pretty robust, but that's more due to my laziness in letter writing than to an overabundance of creativity.
I rarely (if ever) buy cards from the store anymore. I do keep a box of store-bought thank-you cards for my sons to use - mine are always too frou-frou for their tastes. LOL

I write thank you notes regularly. Linda, I wish you were in England, I'd love a letter from you. I'd start off with good intentions, but probably fall by the wayside. I did write letters regularly years ago; as Probation Service volunteer I wrote to a "lifer" every week for over ten years. That is an exercise in saying something without saying anything, as keeping all detials of where you went/live out was quite a challenge. I'm not sure I could do it now. Currently I make cards to order; today I'm making a birthday card for Mum's friend. I am making Christmas cards earlier this year as I've bought an HP Instant Ink subscription - 50 pages per month for £2 - which is cheaper than buying ink cartridges. So I'll need to spread my printing through the months. Oddly, I don't make Christmas cards for myself to send, only my Mum and her friend and last year I made them 60. As writing is awkward now I don't send physical items, though I admit your example makes me think I ought to try it, and use the printer even more.

Does your mom scrapbook? If not maybe her making the cards are her creating. Just because she makes cards doesn't mean she has to send them out.

I make cards to send or give away for specific celebrations or reasons. I try to have a couple on hand but I'm usually scrambling at the last minute trying to make one.

I make them and sometimes mail them. I need to get better at it and make a few ahead. I hate when I need a card and feel the pressure to create one. I need to make a few birthday, Mother's Day and Father's Day cards soon.

I make Birthday, Anniversary, wedding & baby shower cards. I have been trying to do better about making them ahead but they are always for a specific person in mind, so I either mail them or give them in person.

I'm all over the place. I hand out and mail my cards. I make them as I need them and I try to keep some in my stash. I also make them for others.
I make a lot of thank you cards for the 4-H club. I have also made birthday cards for a Facebook group. And I have a request to make get well, birthday and sympathy cards for a dog club. I also make Christmas cards for myself. I also make birthday and sympathy cards for my co-workers and I to give in team.
Dh and dd give cards often. So it's really good if I keep a few of each on hand. I was just told that I'm running out of thank you cards and will be making some this weekend for 4-H.

I've been making cards since I was 14 with white construction paper, markers and glitter. I'd draw my designs, trace, color and glitter. I just wish I'd made an extra to keep just so I could see the cards I made now.
I make a lot of popup and other interactive cards. I keep a bunch on hand but I do mail, hand deliver and sell to friends or at the local farmers and artisans market in the summer. I'm in the Christmas exchange on my other board and try to send out birthday cards too. I'm getting behind, need to start sending birthday cards!
Making cards has always been a stress reliever for me.

I occasionally make generic cards to give out in the future, but the majority of the time I make cards as needed and give them or mail them to the recipient right away.

I give mine away and send them out, but I get why people might end up keeping them... The longer I hold onto some of them waiting for an occasion to send them out, the more attached I get to them. And I have a bunch of cards that were fun to make but don't quite fit what I want to say - to anyone! So those end up hanging around for a long time.

I only make cards for family or very close friends. I have about 18 family members that I make birthday cards and they all have to be mailed so I make them flat and very simple. Many times I use my or dh photography on the front. They are mostly looking for the check any way.

I like to make a batch of cards at a time so I have some to give away and mail for a few months' time. But I would like to build up a larger stash so I have more options to choose from when I need a card. That's one of my goals to get done soon. I want to have a dedicated box with all my mailing needs in it, cards and decorated envelopes, postage stamps, address book, etc.
Once or twice I've made cards that I liked so much, I couldn't bear to give them away. I put those up on my bulletin board!

I make them to mail, send, or give. While I have a stash of cards, they are for times when I don't have time for card making, not because I want to hoard them.
Unless there is an amazing technique that I need to keep an example of to remember, I see no point in making cards to keep.

I started making cards because I write to an elderly relative weekly and buying cards was expensive and finding blank cards I haven't sent already even harder. Now I get to play with my stamps and ink and make cards for her. I also make my own thank yous and gift cards/tags.

I love making cards (and matching envelopes)! I make them for birthdays, sympathy, thank you's. thinking of you etc. I hand deliver them to co-workers and I actually love to snail mail them to family and friends. I think it's so fun and special to actually get something fun in the mail so I enjoy it.
