I never realized 1. how expensive it would be 2. How long it would take or 3. (Real whine ahead) How noisy it will be!!!
I work from home and have a ton of stuff to get done today... they have been here since 10 am.. it is now 4.30. It's hard to concentrate. Oh and the cussing from the guy who is doing the work.. (I am not offended.. but it does make me wonder if he really knows what he is doing)
I"m closing up the computer for now and will finish my work later.
What's your whiney vent!

I'm missing a form to finish my taxes. I've spent 2 days trying to reach someone about the status - still no form.

I have 19 windows in my house and only 1 that I can open because of various issues (torn screens, bent screens, rotten sills, painted shut). My plan is to get a quote for new windows over spring break next week...and I'm a little nervous about what the cost will be. I have no idea is we're in the $10K, $20K, $30K range...just no idea.
Plus, if it's taking all day for one door...how long will a house of windows take?

So we agreed that I would buy a new door and he would pay his guy to replace it. His guy comes back to measure and the frame is crooked. (house was built in 1918.) So not just the door but the entire frame had to be replaced. Interestingly the frame cost nothing. It was actually cheaper to replace it than just the door. So for the windows, it probably depends on how good of shape the window sills are in. I just had to replace a few window sills because they were rotting. They weren't expensive. Good luck!

I get a bit of anxiety when workman are at the house. Our home is 19 years old and its time to redo the guts. New AC/furnace, new roof, new windows, exterior pain. At our first window quote we were told the standard is $800 per window. We have 27 windows. However, most window brands have a lifetime warranty on the glass if you're the original owner. We are! So, we're only having to pay labor which rough estimate comes to about $2,000. I'll buy new screens which are about $25 each (but not all windows have them).
The windows are in the process of being ordered. I was told two full days to replace windows. Next Thursday and Friday the new AC and furnace is being installed - two full days. The Monday after that is duct cleaning all afternoon. We're still getting roof quotes, but that will be a noisy job and several days I assume. I'm not sure how the pets are going to like all this. The kittens will need to be locked up since they've already explored the crawl space under the house during HVAC bids. I don't want them running out an open door or window opening. My old dog will be fine other than all the pounding.
I never know what to do with myself when workmen are here. Normally I would be doing some cleaning and then I sit for a couple of hours surfing the web in front of the TV. I guess I'll hide away in the office in front of the computer. No one will need to be in that room since those windows are fine and there's no HVAC work to be done in there.

We also noticed a decrease in our heating and cooling costs. Good luck!

Be careful with who you get to do this. There are a lot of scammers out there that do replacement windows. Read carefully anything that you sign. My sister, who is an intelligent person, somehow managed to sign a paper that put a lien on her house for the windows. I have 42 windows in my house. Lord. I hate window washing season! But they are all original to the house, which was built in 1928. They don't make them like that any more. Not one single piece of rotten wood in any of them. We did have storm windows put up outside when we had the house resided 25 years ago, but every single window is still original. I can tell which ones still have original glass, because there is just a tiny bit of wave in it. New windows, for the most part, are garbage. My neighbors built their house in the mid 70's and have replaced windows twice.
