Planning a trip next week and looking for advice, tips, etc. Also going to creation museum. We only have a day to spend at each. We have a hotel reserved in Florence already. Dd #1 is going with us and she found a pet sitter with a app! What did we ever do before smart phones?

I've not gone to the ark, but some friends of mine did. One went the week it opened and can't wait to go back again. It was so crowded when she was there, I have no idea how much time it really takes to go through.
We went to the Creation Museum about 5 years ago and spent all day there. I wished we had more time because it was crowded (it was during the summer, though).

I'd love to see the Ark encounter. The story of Noah my favorite bible story. Even if it was not it would be nice to see simply for the engineering, & architectural skills & and workmanship needed to construct an ark as described in the Bible. Must be awesome.
The creation museum not my thing.
I hope your family has a wonderful vacation elaynef. Sorry I can't help you with tips.

Absolutely NO logical or critical thinking skills were involved in creating it. I don't think I could ever bring myself to contribute to that by paying to visit either of these attractions.

This made me think: I started a thread where I asked for thoughts for marking a first period. Lots of people came in to the thread and said stuff like "what a stupid idea" or "don't do it". Even though Ark Park is not something I would support myself, I will just hope that you have a really good time and that you enjoy it.

I hope you enjoy it. I always like natural history type museums, it's fun to see the dioramas and such. Of course you won't have taxidermied dinosaurs the way you can with current animals, but still neat to see.

Our church is planning a bus trip to the Ark Encounter in August and DH and I are scheduled to go. I'm really looking forward to it. Everyone that I know who has been there has had nothing but good things to say about it. I hope you enjoy it - and let us know about your trip!

Don't be skeered! You should post anything that you want to. I'll admit that one needs a thick skin to interact on a public message board. But just remember practice makes the skin thicker.
Also, coming from one who has no use for church or religion, if your faith works for you that is all that is important. Threads about your or anyone else's faith are not off limits on this board. However, you will definitely have to take the snarky/funny comments because religion tends to be silly to a lot of people. Post more!

That was a questionable use of funds for admitance. I make the family stop at all kinds of weird things during road trips.

I have not been there so I can't offer any advice. I hope you enjoy your visit. I also love off the beaten path type attractions. I will search those out where ever we travel to because you often find the most interesting /best/awesome things that way. We had to get off I-10 in Fort Stockton (?) in the middle of the night so I could see the big Road Runner.

I make the family stop at all kinds of weird things during road trips. I love quirky roadside attractions, too. However, this place is trying to teach crap like what is posted in that exhibit as being equal to science. It's not, and at $40 per person for admission, I'm not going to fund that nonsense. At one point they were offering $1 admission for children on public school trips because they want to spread their message. So no, I won't contribute to that by paying overpriced admission to subsidize their attempts to mis-educate kids. And don't get me started on the way they have abused tax-exempt status and local tax breaks to make a fortune off of this stuff. There is nothing scientifically sound in the statement that because crocodiles lived with dinosaurs, and humans live with crocodiles, then it's reasonable to conclude that humans lived with dinosaurs. Total.logic.fail. And from what I have seen of other exhibits posted online in the past, this theme of making tortured arguments to "scientifically" prove creationism runs throughout the museum. If you (general you) want to believe the literal story of creation, have at it. Own it as a matter of faith, but don't try to convince anyone that science supports a "young Earth," because it just doesn't.

You were in my "neck of the woods". Aka the middle of nowhere..why were Y'all in ft.Stockton? It was many years ago and a friend and I were driving cross country. We decided to go the Southern route and were just traveling through. It was a long sretch on I-10 and we were in that area around 2 am, but I really wanted to see the statue of the Road Runner for some reason. So we got off and I got the see the Road Runner, and I don't regret it...hahaha. I would have like to had the chance to see more of that area. I was really intrigued by the landscape, it was so different from mountainous Vermont. It was amazing to drive the interstate at night where it was just land and darkness around you. I was in awe how you could see where towns/city started and ended. Little areas of light totally surrounded by darkness. I definitely want to see more of your state some day.

I'll admit I didn't know the Ark Attraction even existed. I think I learn something new on 2peas every day. I did know about the Creation Museum because one summer a few years ago there was a huge billboard on an interstate I drive relatively frequently. The billboard prominently featured a large cartoonish drawing of a dinosaur. Interesting advertising approach.

Just be aware that every single "science" exhibit is just flat out wrong. It's one guy's opinion and totally opposes scientific fact. Things like the picture above - do you want your kids growing up to think its okay to make assumptions like "because crocodiles lived when dinosaurs did, then humans must have, too?" This is kind of scary to me. I don't think you have to believe that dinosaurs lived before humans did in order to believe in God and forcing this sort of fake science just to make that point is dangerous.
Also note, this exhibit will have you believe that God destroyed every single human being, and every single animal in the world except those on the ark. Most understand that if this flood did happen and if the ark was built it was more of a regional event. I would find it hard to explain to my children why God chose wholesale genocide - the murder of millions and millions of human beings, many of them innocent babies, horrible drowning deaths.
This is one man's extreme version of Genesis. Just keep that in mind when you visit.
That being said, if these are your beliefs, I won't argue with you. Go and enjoy it.

I was thinking maybe you were going to big bend national park. I think that is the only time we go through there . It's about 125 miles from me and there is very little else out there. You would probably enjoy Big bend if you do get to come back, but it's really hot there in the summer.

We went about a month ago. It was a great thing to see. To see it built to scale you truly can get an appreciation of how everything could fit in accordance with the biblical account. Plus there is so much more to the exhibit. Such as sections on how the Gospel was spread throughout the land, a great room dedicated to salvation itself, a few other biblical stories are covered like Babel etc. I have yet to go to the creation museum. It took us 4 plus hours to just to drive there.
