This from my niece:
We rented THE LOBSTER.
It was nominated for an Oscar for writing and I would have voted for it. The writing was very inventive and fresh. You think something is one thing and it turns out to be something else.
It takes place somewhere people must be in couples. The lead man's wife has left him so he must go to "the hotel" and meet other single people to find a partner. People have 45 days to find a partner and if they do not then they are turned into an animal. There is a sincere need to find a partner, someone you have something in common with, because no one wants to be turned into an animal. You do get to pick what animal you want to be. He has chosen a lobster. Because a lobster can live to be 100 years old, they are sexually active all their lives, and he has always liked swimming. It is a serious movie with quirky bits. Or a black comedy with a biting edge.
It grows on you.
================================================ Anyone else see it? What is your opinion? I think I'd try it, not so sure about DH.

It wasn't my cup of tea, but I suspected that going into it.

Haven't seen but sounds interesting. I like funky offbeat things like this. I think I'm a sucker for watching a movie that isn't the one everyone is raving about but rather the mysterious one that you find by accident and ends up being intriguing or funny. Thanks for the info, hadn't heard of it before.

I saw it and would not recommend it. The whole movie was weird and awkward but the worst part was that the end was extremely unsatisfying. I mean, the movie just randomly ended. No closure whatsoever!

I loved that movie. My husband watched it because I wanted to, but he ended up really liking it too. It was one of my favorites from last year.

DS (recent college graduate with a film degree) recommended we (he and I) watch it one night so we did. I didn't care for it at all. He loved it. I thought it had promise (one of my favorite actresses-who's name I can't recall at this moment) and a great premise, but in the middle it got boring and went downhill from there.

I saw it by myself while visiting my sister in Vermont one afternoon. I was in a vintage movie theatre. Couldn't stand it. Made it through the entire movie but walked out when there were about 15 minutes left. Just to weird for me.

I saw it and while I appreciated the originality and other aspects of it, overall I was only so-so on it. Going in, I thought it might have had more of a Wes Anderson whimsy vibe to it. There was one scene in particular that really bothered me.

I saw it a few months ago. I loved the weird premise and the first half of the film, but I didn't care for the second half of the film or the ending.

I thought it was going to be one type of quirky movie but I couldn't stand this one, especially one disturbing scene.

One of the weirdest movies I have ever seen in my entire life. I was shaking my head for days. Didn't care for it at all.
