My son is getting married in a week and they are having one. Many of their friends who got married recently did too, and they all seem to think they are fun. They will be doing a flip book of pics for each couple in Photobooth.

I would see how into it the bride and groom are. If they are meh, I wouldn't spend the money on it. I have a feeling look back in a number of years from now they would rather have something more useful. It really depends on the crowd you expect to be there and if alcohol will be involved. It usually takes a couple of drinks to get people into that kind of stuff. I personally would not be one take part, no matter how many of glasses of wine I had.

DD's wedding was 2 weeks ago. Photo booth was a HUGE hit! The guests got a copy of their photo and then one copy was pasted on to a page for a scrapbook so they could write a sentiment or just sign it. That book doubled as the guest book. Much more fun than just signatures on a line in a book. Those who didn't like the props just did a plain photo, and that was fine too. My DD and her DH love looking at it, and everyone had their own photo to take home. (When we first told my DH about it, he said "What's that?" But after seeing how much everyone enjoyed it he agreed it was a great idea.) Of course I suppose it does depend on the crowd, but we certainly had the right crowd for it. Many members of the wedding party made multiple trips as the evening went on.

I have a feeling look back in a number of years from now they would rather have something more useful. I would disagree. Of all the things to look back on years from now, I think the guest book with the sentiments and signatures next to those photos will be at the top of the list. It seems like a great personalized memory of the people who celebrated their wedding day with them.

It sounds fun to me.. I haven't actually attended any wedding or function that has had one, but I know they are/were popular. I hate my picture taken but with some props I probably would do it. I would say if the bride and groom are for it.. why not?? And if it does seem to expensive I would say do the DIY thing.

I have participated in about 4 or 5 photo booths between weddings, reunions and Christmas parties and have had a ball without a drop of alcohol in my system.

I'm heartily disappointed to see no one has yet posted "it isn't done in my circles". Someone ALWAYS pops in with that snooty statement on every wedding question ever.
As for me, I'd be game, though I've never been to a wedding that had one.
I might pay $1200 for four hours but $16k? No way, not ever.

They had one at my company Christmas party a few years ago when I worked at a bank. DH and I had a great time. The picture is currently on my desk at work. I think this is a super fun idea.

There were props available on a long table. Not an actual photo booth, but they had fun nonetheless. The bride and a friend Even our photographers enjoyed the photo booth

A few of the places that I have checked have quoted anywhere from $1,200.00 to $16,000.00 for 4 hours. That includes unlimited photographs, props, an attendant, delivery, set up, and return.
Some of the places offer instant upload to Instagram and Facebook and video messages for the bride and groom. I don't know if all that stuff is really necessary. The on i checked out were $500 _ 1000 for 4 hours.

I think they are fun, but I probably wouldn't have spent that much to get one had they been popular when I got married, I think they were just starting to be a thing then. Anyways, we got a similar effect because dh s sister's brought some silly wigs and coats and people dressed up on the dance floor and our photographer and friends caught some good shots. My cousin had a trunk full of mardi gras masks and beads and it had a similar effect. But it depends on the personality of the bride and groom, I loved that they surprised us and it was hilarious. I bet my sister would have been upset had someone done it to her so, know your bride and groom is my advice, and you can get fun shots by just having props available.

I think they're cute. People have a blast with them, and pictures are never a bad idea in my opinion at a wedding.
I would probably be willing to pay up to $2000. or so for one if it included the printed photos, but no way would I even consider $16,000. or anywhere near that.

I think the photo both at weddings is one of the most fun things at the reception!
I've been to a gazillion weddings. My Dad was in a band that played at weddings/receptions and somehow I went to most of them. Receptions with a photo booth were always the most fun. It helps with that awkward time between the end of the wedding and beginning of the reception while you are waiting for the bride and groom to actually get there. That's usually when the band/DJ usually plays some lame music that is just filler and people that don't know each other sit and stare at each other like awkward turtles. If there is a photo booth with props it gives people something to do and something to talk about. Shy people that wouldn't ever take a photo in the booth even get into at least talking about the fun others are having.
I say go for it! Maybe not for 16k, but a cheaper option I would for sure do. The more pictures the better! I'd rather have silly pics of people having fun than boring pictures of people sitting at tables talking or staring at nothing.
Hope the wedding is all the bride and groom hope it would be! Best wishes for a happy future!

Love them. No one I know hires a professional photo booth. The couple provide silly props and guest take cell phone pics and upload them to FB or Instagram using the hashtag provided. The last wedding I went to the bride was changing her surname to Stone so the hashtag was #getstoned. Her MIL didn't like that lol.

They are very popular around here. People love to use it. If you do get it, make sure the bride & groom get a copy of every photo strip taken (you can set that up with the rental company).
Also, look into Group-on for photo booth deals.

None of the ones I've been to are professional ones either. The host just buys kit made up of different props and leaves them out on a table. Corporate dinners/social evenings have them here too. They're a lot of fun.People go over and use it themselves throughout the evening. I'm sure you can buy kits off Amazon or somewhere similar, much cheaper than hiring a professional to do it.

We were at a wedding last fall that had one and I still have three of the strips on my refrigerator. They make me smile every time I look at them!

I love any opportunity for photos, but I don't like the props. I've seen some wonderful photos with those large frames and everyone has a mustache. I guess because I don't like mustaches generally.
I love the idea of having a DIY photo booth and print out the pics on site.
For $16K I will fly to the wedding, take pics of everyone, print them out and paste them in the book for you!

Well it's not something that's done in my circles (there ya go Zee) ... I'm not a fan of formal, posed photos so I think they're fun. That and having Polaroid and Instax cameras for people to use.

I love photo booths at any party! In fact, I have a box of props that I get out every time we have a party, and the results are always hilarious! You don't have to hire a professional photo booth company, but you can provide your own props. If you don't mind spending the extra cash,I don't see why a professional photo booth is a bad thing.

I am not outgoing and fun like that, so I would not use one. But, if my child wanted one at their wedding, I would not mind. I do think those ones that are large framed mirrors look MUCH nicer for a wedding than a homemade set up of props and instant cameras. I think they are called Magic Mirrors. I also really think those little "thumb powered" flip books for weddings seem fun. I have never been to a wedding with them but have seen them online. They just take a short video, the video is turned into several photos that are bound together into a book.... like this www.alittlescene.com/services/flip-books/

My sis just got married in March and she had one and it was a lot of fun! Usually I stay away from those but since there was no actual photographer I feel people were more likely to be goofy. There were lots of props and lots of people joined in. Nice to see some people's silly side. Also, the bride and groom got a link to all the photos and it also printed 4 photos on one page so guests got those too. The kids as well as adults loved it!
